Phenotypic plasticity is broadly adaptive across an elevation gradient in the Cutleaf Monkeyflower Phenotypic plasticity is a key mechanism by which organisms can cope with environmental heterogeneity, but its evolutionary consequences depend on how plastic responses align with the broader adaptive...

Preprint up now! With @ferrisifolius.bsky.social, we found positive selection on leaf shape plasticity across the altitudinal range of the cutleaf monkeyflower. This experiment was a HUGE personal undertaking. If you give it a read, Iโ€™d love to hear your thoughts!

Following the killing of AFGE Member Alex Pretti and the subsequent slanderous rhetoric that followed from top Trump administration officials, AFGE National President Everett Kelley issued the following statement:

โ€œYesterday, AFGE brought together labor and faith leaders from Minneapolis and across the nation to mourn our fallen brother from Local 3669, Alex Pretti. We honored his life and legacy and lifted up his family, his friends, his union, Minneapolis, and our nation in prayer.

โ€œToday, we demand accountability.

โ€œIn the immediate aftermath of Alexโ€™s killing, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem betrayed the public trust by slandering the good name of our union brother and calling him a โ€œdomestic terrorist.โ€ Alex Pretti was a patriotic ICU nurse at a VA hospital who devoted his life to serving Americaโ€™s veterans. That claim was reckless, defamatory, and unsupported by the facts. Noem was preceded in this false statement by Stephen Miller, Deputy White House Chief of Staff, who is also the architect of the chaotic and failed immigration policy in Minnesota.

โ€œOur demand is clear: Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who was responsible for carrying out the policy that led to Alexโ€™s needless killing, and Deputy White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, the architect of that policy, must resign immediately. If they refuse, President Trump must dismiss them.

Rafael Veraza, 25, said he pulled into Samโ€™s Club with his wife and baby on a weekend grocery run on Nov. 8 when he saw a commotion surrounding what looked to be unmarked vehicles full of immigration officers in Cicero, west of Chicago.
The family decided to leave the area without shopping, he said. On his way out, he believes a passing agent mistook him for one of the protesters who have followed immigration officials throughout Chicagoland in an effort to warn residents and document their operations.
Verazaโ€™s wife happened to be filming the parking lot scene on her smartphone because they wanted to one day show their 1-year-old the turbulent times she was born in. She aimed her camera at a passing SUV and captured the moment when an officer filled the familyโ€™s vehicle with a mist of pepper spray.

Video shows the moment Rafael Veraza says federal agents shot pepper-spray into his car, where he was with his wife and 1-year-old daughter. (Video: Zoeann Murphy/The Washington Post)
Veraza and his wife poured water on their crying babyโ€™s face and rushed to the hospital. A doctor called in a poison control specialist for an expert opinion because theyโ€™d never seen such a young person pepper sprayed, Veraza said. They advised bringing the child to a specialist for follow-up visits to gauge potential long term damage to the childโ€™s lungs and eyes.
McLaughlin denied that federal agents pepper-sprayed anyone outside of Samโ€™s Club in a statement issued after the incident to the news media. She did not offer an explanation for what is shown in the video.

ICE sprayed a one-year-old in the face with pepper spray.

The child and parents are US citizens, but that doesn't even matter.

These monsters pepper-sprayed a baby.

We cannot allow ICE to continue this behavior, and they aren't going to reform themselves.
