Hopeful thinking that it is opening the seat for a Senator Buttigieg.
I might finally be glad that all we have available locally in rural food deserts are small franchise stores that overcharge everyone for food.
It is difficult in rural area's where library access is limited.
Title: "Participatory Disinformation The “Big Lie” during the 2020 Election and the January 6, 2021 Attack on the U.S. Capitol" This is a visual graphic explaining the dynamics between “political elites” and “audiences” in this phenomenon. Political elites are at the top of the graph, audiences at the bottom, with several arcing arrows from elites to audiences on the right, and from audiences to elites on the left, in a kind of clockwise motion, showing a cyclical process. The arcing arrows have labels, explained below. Political elites repeatedly spread the message of a rigged election, which set an expectation of voter fraud among their audiences. This became a “frame” through which events around the election were interpreted. Online “crowds” generated false/misleading stories of voter fraud, reinforcing the frame. Sometimes these stories were produced intentionally (with knowledge that they were false). But often they were generated sincerely, through misinterpretation. Activists and social media influencers helped amplify these stories, passing the content up to the political elites. Political elites echoed the false/misleading stories back to their audiences, reinforcing the frame, building a sense of collective grievance. As audiences echoed and reiterated this growing sense of grievance, violent language and calls to action increased. Political elites then began to mobilize and organize the audiences… into a series of rallies and protests. And one of these led to the violent attack on the Capitol on January 6.
Here's a graphic explaining how the Big Lie was seeded and mobilized into the events of January 6, 2021 through a kind of "participatory disinformation" process. Trump's "war on drugs" refrain could catalyze a similar kind of participatory propaganda and mobilization cycle.

What is sad is reading a Syllabus for a current class that is dated 10+ years ago, or does not have any readings from the last decade.
Since when is attack culture, hate, dis-information and lies "broadening our horizons".
I have already broadened my horizons with polite discussions on various views or topics in the last couple of weeks, a lot more than the last 5 years elsewhere.
Since Trump's election & the subsequent rise in online misogyny, some women are joining movements like 4B, a South Korean-founded separatist group rejecting relationships w/ men. ISD’s @cecilesimmons.bsky.social writes about the global backlash against women's rights and the responses it’s sparking.
In some rural communities the only public libraries are also at the schools.
Split Rock Lighthouse shines from its cliff top perch. Lake Superior is unusually calm in the foreground, with overcast skies behind.
Every year Split Rock Lighthouse is lit up on November 10th in honor of the 29 men who died on the SS Edmond Fitzgerald, and the thousands of others who have lost their lives on the Great Lakes. I was able to make it up and catch it this year, it was worth the drive.
Lake Superior whitecaps
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they called 'gitche gumee'
The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead
When the skies of November turn gloomy
🧵
Yesterday marked 49 years since the Edmund Fitzgerald sank off of Whitefish Point, Michigan on Lake Superior. Today, the gales of November will be howling and gale warnings are up across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Stay safe my Yooper friends. www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vST...

We are on @bsky.app.
Please consider following @auschwitzmemorial.bsky.social where every day we commemorate the victims & educate about the tragic human history of Auschwitz.
Repost please.
In process. Would take an archive first, I guess that helps for better results, but it is reasonably priced.

We have a small group that we try to switch off so that at least 1 person is at the monthly township or county meetings, so often they meet with no public, and just having people there ihelps to know what is going on.
We need to make the commitments, many of the rural villages, townships and counties, school boards purposefully make it difficult to attend, by having 4pm meetings. We also need the party from the top to support or have outreach at local levels other than every 4 years.
State and Local, for many states like MI the local Dem parties and candidates are ignored in known Rep area's. We need to support candidates from township and county up to the state house.
There's this big list already you might want to subscribe to and block - bsky.app/profile/skyw...
Feels like that was one of the tipping points when the history and science channels channels switched to conspiracy theories and fictions.
New review up: Sounding Thunder, which is hard to describe. It's an intergenerational collaborative biography of Francis Pegahmagabow (decorated Ojibwe WWI veteran) by his great-grandson, who contextualizes the stories of his great-aunt and uncle in Ojibwe. landbodymind.substack.com/p/review-sou...

Screenshot of the last few paragraphs of the article, beginning with ‘But gender did play a role. Time and again, voters, very often women themselves, told me that they just didn’t think that “America is ready for a female president”. ‘
Interesting piece from a Harris phone bank volunteer that calls a lot of simple narratives into question - yes, inflation clearly played a role but was only one aspect of economy, and so did other factors like doubt that the US was ‘ready’ for a woman president www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
