The fifteenth of the #MiniMnΓ‘ is Dundalk's Dorothy Macardle. A historian, writer, activist, and fan of the occult, she was commissioned by De Valera to write "The Irish Republic", spoke out against misogyny in the 1937 Constitution, and passionately rallied against fascism.

In DCU you can be deemed promotable but they may not promote you. If such is the case they offer you the option to enter the hunger games arena once again - β€œmay the odds be ever in your favour” You have failed, try again, fail again, fail better. @ifut.bsky.social @dublincityuni.bsky.social

Thank you Margaret. All the NUI colleges now promote anyone deemed promotable to Associate Lecturer - not so @dublincityuni.bsky.social - it is beyond demoralising. But I am not going to be defined by their criteria- and am back to the archives tomorrow - for me.

Handing in three monographs re the promotion application, having successfully managed a programme stripped of staff, having an increasing number of PhD student - being deemed promotable but not promoted. This was so hard. But now I am just focusing on my teaching and the research I want to do.

I am looking forward to going back to @ucdarchives.bsky.social tomorrow to continue my research for my biography of Sighle Hunphreys. My university does not rate the work I do in terms of promotion to Associate Professor but I am still going to enage in this type of long-term research. I value it.

Sighle Humphreys married Donal O'Donoghue on 19 February 1935. This writer wishes Donal had 'waited until this unfortunate country was free' before marrying, as many married patriots 'eventually ignored the ills of the Motherland in the tranquillity of the domestic hearth.' #ValentinesDay
