My tattoo artist and I just had the discussion that we always feel safer with someone with fun hair colors or tattoos and piercings than someone who looks "normal".
I like to roll this out now and again to give folks perspective; not to guilt trip, or even advertise for my own work.

Also note that, when you can, money is better to donate than buying the food yourselves! Nonprofit food banks don't pay sales tax and buy in bulk for reduced price per unit, so they can make a dollar go farther than you can!
