Anyone else feel this? All of the making-fun-of-AI emojis at work are existing emojis with extra fingers. Real people have extra fingers and stunted ones and Iβm sure theyβve been made fun of a lot :/

Omg
Or the AI prompt mines apparently? π Iβm still confused about my feelings and thoughts on the transition happening. It was something I was going to sort out on leave but I didnβt.
Back to the bit mines today!!!
Thank you!

At last, a chance to repost my favourite ever font-related controversy with alt-text, now that Calibri is back in the news.
Possibly unpopular opinion but I think tenure should be revokable when you express bigotry toward the immutable characteristics of part of your student body. Such as saying women are naturally not as good at science and engineering. How many young women students has he harmed since saying that?
If women are underrepresented in STEM, it's at least partly because men like this offer mentoring, then embarrass themselves by assuming their mentees must be into them, then decide the best solution is to cut ties, which sends the signal to other faculty that the mentee must not be good enough.
It got overshadowed by the pipeline news, but NYSβs deal to allow Greenidge Generation to keep operating an upstate gas plant *for the sole purpose of mining bitcoin* might be almost as big of a reversal gothamist.com/news/upstate...
saw this clip of the NYC mayor debate and i had tears in my eyes, perhaps the most insane section of any debate ever
We for sure just hit 150 on the M train going under the East River. Wheels not touching the tracks.
Part of a page from 'The Cycling World Illustrated', 26 August 1896. It includes photos of a tricycle for collecting cats (complete with uniformed driver) and the Cats' Infirmary, Hampstead (a pen of cats of varying sizes in someone's house, one of the cats is being cuddled by what appears to be the tricycle driver). The accompanying text reads: "A philanthropic lady in the North of London has established an infirmary for cats. On receipt of a postcard she will send for the ailing animal, the tricycle which collects them being provided with a box resting on springs to avoid all jarring and jolting. The cats are carefully tended at the infirmary, where their quarters and most comfortable, and when cured are returned to their owners, no charge being made."

Pop a card in the London post in 1896, & a chauffeur driven tricycle would collect your pet for care & cure, providing a smooth springed ride to the Hampstead infirmary

ICE is a hostile occupying force that is a danger to everyone.
Dr Jane Goodall discussing her shit list is funny, but the rest of this is her last words for all of us, which are worth hearing.
Disassociation ainβt hittin' like it used to.
The language of non-consent around AI is really telling. "It's too late to be scared." "It's here whether we want it or not." "You'll have to learn to work with it." "You can't fight the inevitable."
All just variations of "you're not allowed to say no." Creepy technology made by creepy people.

Gaza faces a severe humanitarian crisis as Israeli restrictions on aid lead to widespread malnutrition and starvation, with hospitals overwhelmed by malnourished children.
This podcast ep is a good overview of how the recent Republican bill affected climate policy and which parts of the IRA it repealed: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/s... repubs have a wind and solar vendetta (they almost *added* a tax to them!), but luckily seem okay with nuclear.
Itβs been great! For some reason linen seems extra discounted.
There is so much high quality summer linen for cheap on Poshmark π

Itβs 100Β° in NYC so itβs a good day to watch Do the Right Thing, leaving Netflix soon. I saw it for the first time a few weeks ago! and itβs just really good.
Thank you! That makes sense.
Is there a ranking strategy thatβs best for defeating Cuomo? Or is βdonβt rank Cuomoβ the best you can do?
When people support Andrew Cuomo, what theyβre saying implicitly is that they donβt care about the women heβs already sexually harassed and retaliated against and they wonβt care if he does it again. Itβs a political stance that enables discrimination against women in government
She was the Speaker of the Minnesota House and she was assassinated along with her husband by someone impersonating a police officer; this is terrifying and also just so symptomatic of the political madness and violence Trump has sown
This NYC mayor debate is good!
I see people using the terms "kill" and "no-kill" in regard to animal shelters all the time. I hope that maybe some of you will watch this video to understand why many people in the rescue community feel these terms are harmful to the animals in most desperate need. youtu.be/lpaKT6v_mAw?...
