Make backups of ALL your art. There was a time mine was all in my failing hard drive and I can't imagine how I'd be feeling losing everything I've made throughout a decade. Read the "3-2-1 backup rule" and get yourself two quality USBs. Check out freefilesync for very easy/convenient syncing.

I get the feel that there will be an initial fragmentation into different platforms (Stoat, Root, Matrix, etc) as people test them out. Will last like a year until there is one clear best option that will spread through word of mouth as people slowly migrate to it. Hopefully something FOSS.

Stoat I've heard of before and looks pretty promising imo. FOSS and it looks like there's documentation for self-hosting.
