yeah, I feel it's especially true in something like Castlevania where the game absolutely pushes you to realize what the correct approach is and you can't do it otherwise, but the correct approach is often not that difficult to perform once you do know what it is, it's getting there that's difficult
but I could be biased in having put more time learning SNES Dracula X in order to clear it at all, knowing more safe strategies for it than the PCE game

sonic blast i feel gets too much of a bad rep. it's cheap and ugly but i feel it's not even top 3 of the worst sonic game gear games. well. maybe it is but it's like number 3 maybe
it's great to feel intimate with a game but i'd warn against feeling ownership over. that i feel leads to people who just go for nicher & nicher games just to distance themselves from others. i feel like everyone should love the games they love regardless if they're popular or not
