We had a Chain of Hearts craft event here at UCLA today and it was a lot of fun! Around 50 people showed up!
I remember that. So awful! Police have killed over 1000 people with tasers. eji.org/news/investi...
A police attack on a film screening is just one of the assaults on student freedoms that have turned UCLA into more of a fortress than a place of higher learning, write four UCLA faculty members.
"Beyond the absurdity of sending a battalion of riot police to seize a screen consisting of a sheet & 2 poles, the constant & extreme police..presence on campus since last April has made [it] nearly unrecognizable as a university."

The next day, UCLA released a public statement which contains false, misleading, and unsubstantiated statements. My colleagues and I wrote a chronicle of what we saw first-hand and also wrote an article for The Nation. www.thenation.com/article/soci...
Astonishingly, police drove two motorcycles at night into a pedestrian plaza while students were fleeing. This was extremely unsafe as no one expected motor vehicles in this area and a student could have easily tripped and fallen in front of a motorcycle.
On Apr 30 an outdoor movie screening at UCLA was violently suppressed by roughly thirty police officers in riot gear with clubs and projectile weapons. Here a student picking up AV cables is grabbed and pushed by a police officer (video by Renee Tajima-PeΓ±a).
For my most recent book, I offered signed bookplates to readers who bought my book and then posted about it on social media. It's a fun way to connect with readers and much cheaper than sending out a signed book!

Over 1000 people at the anti-Musk rally today in Hawthorne, near LAX (Los Angeles International Airport).
Thanks so much for sharing!
I was there! Shame on Children's Hospital LA for your cowardice! Restore fair access to health care for all children now!
Children's Hospital LA is restricting gender-affirming care for youth, in violation of state law. Tonight hundreds of us rallied outside the hospital to demand it restore gender-affirming care for youth. Everyone has the right to fair access to health care.

Popular or not Dems cannot bend on the need for trans people to be treated with basic humanity and respect. If we give up that because the right made trans people unpopular, we give up everything. Theyβll dice us group by group like a salami. We die on this hill or we die alone in a ditch
Whatever happens in big politics, LGBTQ+ students, faculty, and staff are among the most vulnerable people on campus and need our support and protection more than ever.
