Call for Editors at the Open Journal ofΒ Astrophysics The number of papers submitted to the Open Journal of Astrophysics continues to rise, as demonstrated by this nice graphic which shows the stats for new submissions for the last five years: It's very clear that the thicket is getting thicker! My hot take is that some of astronomy - data-crunching papers with no novel modelling or interpretations - deserves its reckoning. We give tedious papers to grad students as "training", but is it really? Maybe astronomy can get multiple publishing tiers, like in other fields.

Today the ESO time allocation results have allegedly been announced.
