Yes I suppose so - it’s the strange construct of β€œshe lived in…to her death…she died in…” but maybe that’s just early 19C English. And I guess they wouldn’t have thought of carting her home.

…and a paragon of virtue. He outlived her by 7 years.

The cause which he knew not, he searched out. Reader, go and do likewise.

I shall use this: β€œthe cause which you know not, search out” is a message for the social media age.

Memorial to Robert Hey

The first (with its weird contradiction about where she died) is to Martha Hey. Born in 1750, married seemingly for the first time, aged 46 who lived a life of Conjugal Affection with Richard for 32 years.

The second to the said Richard, a Yorkshireman and scholar. 5 years her senior…

St Mary’s Hertford

St Mary’s Hertford

Not a medieval church from a bike as I had to drive the o/h’s mother to see the Hertford Chamber Choir do miserable music.

This is St Mary’s Hertfordingbury. A lovely 13C and 15C parish church just outside Hertford.

There’s a witch buried in the cemetery. And a couple of interesting plaques.

I have been. Really need Exeter to win to cheer me up. England were really terrible today.

While you lot were watching rugby I was listening to miserable music.

The Hangman and the Papist
The Hangman and the Papist YouTube video by Rick Wakeman - Topic

And this about the futility, anger and horror of a stupid religious war just seems so appropriate. Rick Wakeman showing off on the piano, and even 40 years on Cousins distinctive voice.

Token 2. Strawbs. The hangman and the papist.

Morning. Thanks for hosting.

It’s so awful. But inspired by Obama’s eulogy yesterday I’m girding my loins to return to the good fight. β€œSend me”.

This song about The Troubles has some problematic lyrics. That’s good, art should get us to question stuff.

β€œNot you Gareth, you’re a good immigrant”. Our village of just over 500 people voted 56% for Le Pen. I think we are the ONLY immigrants here.

It’s been 50 years since I tasted it!

My memory is of light, succulent sponge with butter icing and β€œcoffee” flavour. But remember, this was rural England in the 1970s. Skimmed oat milk iced latte were words that never appeared in that configuration. (Skimmed scum, oat porridge, ice cream…)

8 March 2020.

8 March 2020.

That bloke looks familiar. March 2030.

This is me at Murrayfield (at the back with the Quins hat on) and yes that is Hugh Pym taking the selfie. He spent the next year on the TV every day.

Ah. That’ll be the best game of the weekend.

Certainly the one with most atmospheric anthems.

I was there for the last game before the pandemic. A brilliant match. Such noise.

The best off-field team in English red ball cricket is Surrey. If they could be persuaded, look there but doubt AS would want it. In white ball I’d look at Somerset. Need people who understand the domestic limitations and strengths not another β€œvibes and magic” bloke. Or maybe Charlotte Edwards.
