Lightyear and Elio give me a bit of a sinking feeling. One so bizarrely high-concept and tonally grim as to be unenjoyable and completely divorced from the nostalgia it's supposedly baiting, and the other a seemingly well-told story with the unmistakable sensation that its heart has been cut out
I still think Pixar represents a high standard but they've existed long enough that they are no longer anywhere near the cutting edge technologically, and even though the back half of their movies vary from OK to excellent, they are increasingly a victim of Disney's creative stranglehold.
I don't think this song should be lost to time. It's one of my favorite singer-songwriters, one of my favorite folk albums, one of my favorite songs period, and if anything it's more relevant than than ever. The agony of modernity, of a life spent avoiding pain.
