I often refer to "the liberal delusion", explaining that it is the belief that any (social) problem can be addressed through persuasion. This view rejects, among other realities, the very existence of evil people and demands the belief that people like Trump are ultimately rational and persuadable.

It seems that Trump's everything is about ruining as many lives as possible.
We should be able to do better than the gods; after all, we invented them.
Two related thoughts come to mind. "Canticle for Leibowitz" and, next time around, we will have to make stupid people pay for their stupidity—evasion should be treated as intention.
In a democracy in which the former significant gain political power, what would one expect?
Stupid people have basically abandoned their humanity when their stupidity results in clear harm to others. There's no point in even trying—the success rate is far too low. It's a specifically liberal stupidity to ignore that fact; it is particularly galling that Objectivists are stupid in this way.
With regard to the war on Iran, I'm caught between "this war is illegal and destructive to our freedom" and "we might as well make lemonade from this lemon".
I think that the date of that decision marks the end of the American republic.
A government that deliberately abandons the rule of law is not morally entitled to its protections.
I almost agree. But forget Congress, it's dead. It's the American people who should kick him in the teeth.
congress sounds cool i wish it was real
I'm going to read.
But my first thought is, whynotboth.gif.

Does a closed door *really* give you privacy?
The answer, in both cases, is: Your privacy can still be violated, but the action makes it harder. Each person has to decide for himself the costs and benefits of any particular privacy enhancer--and not all VPNs are the same.
When the government decides that it no longer must obey the law, it is a tyrant. Tyranny can only be destroyed by the people; waiting for the co-opted mechanisms of government to do so is a fool's game. Do we have the balls? If we do, will we replace it with anything better?
You are either stupid or dishonest. Now go away.
LOL, yeah. I had to look twice to make sure I had read that right.
Once the big sites are taken down, the little sites go next. 230 protects ALL social media, not to mention the infrastructure that enables it, and, without 230, the only place to speak truths that power wants to silence will be on the dark web, anonymously--and that too will be targeted.
One thing to add: Democrats really shouldn’t fear to be anti-ICE. It’s specific, unlike “defund the police.”
If asked, say “Of course I support enforcing the law. ICE isn’t doing that. They’re breaking laws—really important laws, like the Bill of Rights—not enforcing them, which why I oppose ICE.”
This is the sort of query where AI can actually be useful, digging out a needle in the Internet haystack. Also, if the lawsuit has been filed, it'll almost certainly be on a public docket somewhere or maybe courtlistener or any of several other places that document cases of note.
As I put it, they don't care about the people they claim to care about; they only care about *feeling* like they care.
I just had a "discussion" with a leftie about homelessness. She was absolutely certain that her opinions were valid and had the gall to tell me I was being nonresponsive when I pointed out her errors. That being on twitter, I blocked her ass. I don't have time for condescending know-it-alls.
LOL, somebody tell them about Linux (or FreeBSD, my OS of choice).
"To abandon facts is to abandon freedom"

Old Man Yells At Math
Because We The People no longer believe in freedom. We have become entitled and irresponsible. Depending on the nature of our entitlement fetish, we become either Democratic or Republican. And those who escape that trap are mostly too ignorant or otherwise unfit to seek or benefit from freedom.

You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor. And you have war.
