WEATHER MAY CANCEL A RALLY. IT DOESN’T CANCEL THE HOUSING CRISIS! Due to severe weather, we’ve made the difficult decision to postpone Sunday’s Build Public Housing Rally.
But let’s be clear: 🌧️ Bad weather pauses a protest. 🏠 It does NOT pause the housing crisis.
Right now: • 13,700 South Australians are on the public housing wait-list • Around 8,000 people are experiencing homelessness • Rents have risen 52% since 2020 When weather forecasts require it, the government calls a “Code Blue.” But Code Blue is a band-aid. During COVID, governments proved they can house people quickly when they choose to. If we can house people in an emergency, we can build the 20,000 public homes needed to fix this crisis properly.
