I've invented a brand-new word—'fiffenblinken.' It's that heart-stopping moment when you wake up at 3 AM, convinced you forgot to put some absolutely critical ‘thingy’ in your panels. You stare wildly into the darkness, and think, “Is this a fiffenblinken emergency... or just the pizza talking?”

Creating blowing ‘snowflakes’ is the most exciting part of the page. In Photoshop I customize a brush. I ‘spread’ the brush & ‘jitter’ to mix up the size and angle, so each snowflake swirls and tumbles in its own unique way. Finally, I ‘scatter’ the brush making the scene look full of winter magic.

This exercise presents a challenge, as my usual approach involves analyzing the figure by ratios—for instance, considering the relationship from her waist to her shoulders or knees. However, due to the oversized hoodie, the obscured waist complicates accurate assessment of her proportions.

When I illustrate a graphic novel, I put energy into crafting the final panel on each page spread so it holds the reader in suspense. The sense of anticipation drives them to keep the pages turning, going deeper into the story.

I mix programs to create graphic novel art. This starts with Clip Studio Paint, goes to original inking, then to Photoshop for color. It takes several attempts before settling on an arresting color combination. #graphicnovelillustration
