Right now limiting myself to the CPU to make sure I at least pay some attention to optimization, figure I can eventually offload the draw calls / calculations to the gpu and it'll be a dbz weighted clothes moment for the fps.

Still at the C++ vector-style engine! Ended up calling the core objects of the system Glyphs so might call it the Glyph-Drive.
Was originally going to just be a small display engine, but realizing this might be the perfect light game engine for me to keep from getting constantly art sidetracked...
Need to refresh on the C++ skills a bit, so working on a small project I had planned as an interactive art installation a while back.
Will be going for a '80s sci-fi' movie prop vibe for the finished piece and first step of that is a small retro vector style engine!
Also I'd be remiss if I didn't mention one of my badges of indie dev honor is that you wrote an article about my game for Wired back in 2011, crazy how time flies.
www.wired.com/2011/09/ches...
Breezing through Press Reset after Blood Sweat And Pixels, great stuff might have to snag that deal.
And gotta say I'm not sure if these books make we want to jump into the industry or as far away from it as possible...
Slowly chipping away at whatever this game becomes, dropped the camera down a bit and movement unlocked memories of Slamscape for the PS1!
Starting to love the feel of it, kind of reminds me of THPS movement in a way too... might have to add unnecessary grinding.
Do have a project that's been on the (very very) backburner for half a decade now that is screaming to be worked on!
(Which has some slight Tron inspo oddly enough if that End of Line was Tron related haha)
Anyone make the jump from a non-game industry development job to a game industry job?
Full stack dev with a strong background in art and design and a bit of indie dev experience looking to hop over to an industry I have a bit more passion for, any solid advice?
Tonight's sketches (+ a repeat) trying to get a feel for the proxy set.
Thinking I'll end up with a handful of styles to bounce between, really liking the look of the red/black/white Tifa one which was initially just a scrapped sketch I was covering in charcoal.
Emet-Selch proxy draft
Cloud proxy draft
Cactuar proxy draft
Aerith proxy draft
Sketching up some Final Fantasy x Magic proxies with the unnecessary twist that everyone is a skeleton!
Still working out the style a bit, but will probably end up sticking with a fairly sketchy look to be able to get through a decent amount of the set before I get distracted by the next thing...
No way, serial killer _killer_ behavior. Goes full Dexter but instead of having a one-liner just pulls out a pocket pancake and gets munching.
Take 2 of SSBB is underway! Went back and played the build from earlier this year and control didn't feel _quite_ right so started from scratch. Loving what this new version is shaping into, twinstick shooter where bullets stun and you have to dash enemies to kill them forcing some up-close combat!
Procrastinating on sorting my Magic cards by making some satisfyingly snappy modular card dividers. Is it truly procrastination if it helps sorting down the line? π€
Thatβs why I donβt bother with backups π
Just started seeing your art after joining bluesky and I have to say I _love_ and am jealous of how deliberate and confident you are with your lines. Gives every piece I've scrolled by a definite unique signature look to it.
Heyo!
Halfway through day 4 of back to gamedev! Happy with how movement and the basic attacks are feeling, you have the normal twin-stick mode with some barrel rolls on the shoulder buttons + a directional dodge with A and a faster dashing mode when you hold R that leaves a Tron-ish wall behind you
Hoping to get movement a bit more refined and add in some enemies that are a _bit_ more fun than stationary turrets on day two.
End of day 1 getting back to gamedev! Movement and combat basics for Sugar Stardust are getting in place. Using placeholder assets from the Remute Unity music video and some explosions from the asset store to spruce things up a bit, thinking trying to nail down the final visual style will come later
Took the week off of work, have the little basement dev area set up (it's half workshop so don't mind the tools), now time to see if I can remember how to gamdev after a decade+ break and turn this mess of notes and whiteboard scribblings into a thing!
3 days left on the DEKA-DICE Kickstarter! The perfect D20 set for the like... 5 people out there that love tabletop games and hate dice. www.kickstarter.com/projects/ske...
Eventually might try to make something a bit more ambitious with a Gameboy Camera sensor like this project from Raphael Boichot, but this'll do for now! github.com/Raphael-Boic...
New webcam works like a charm! And the frame rate surprisingly isnβt completely unusable as long as there is a decent amount of light.
Solo dev coming back from a long long hiatus(last game I released was on XBLIGβ¦), canβt wait to cook up some low poly pixel textured goodness.
Pixelated low poly might just be one of my favorite looks, love your stuff!
I will never get tired of grabbing a random retro video game mag off the shelf and giving it a flip through.
Something about reading excitement about 'upcoming' games and systems that came out decades ago is so fascinating, really takes you back.
And on the somehow forgotten list:
-Megaman Zero!
Funny story, as a kid I just mashed 'A' through pretty much any dialogue and didn't realize the elves in that game gave you powerups and never used them. Needless to say I found that game HOLY &*@! levels of hard π¬
Have to say how strange and nice it is to have my feed full of cool art, tech, and game related projects as opposed to whatever happened to that other site...
Looks awesome! Mixing up GBA and TCGs is a mashup I am definitely down for.
Time for 10 games, if these are on your list then 'sup.
-JET. SET. RADIO. x infinity
-Megaman Legends
-Magic Pengel
-Final Fantasy
-Pokemon
-Theme Park/RCT
-Digimon World
-Any arcadey racer. Vroom vroom make brain happy.
-Chester...!
-Sugar Stardust... (doesn't exist yet, but when it does!)
