I wonder how many organizations like this that previously had a storefront in a neighborhood because they couldn’t afford downtown office space, have relocated downtown since the pandemic.

The bus from Logan is a long ass bus ride, but it’s still 1 bus. Probably will be faster to take a different bus to the Red Line to the Purple Line, but if CTA implemented Purple Line express during non rush hour it could just be a single transfer…

I managed to can set new dreams.

Standing outside Logan Sq. Blue Line station & realizing that you’ll be able to get almost the entire way to @chicagostars.com games from here on a single bus or a collection of protected & off street bike lanes.

2 things I could only dream of the last time the Red Stars made it to the NWSL Final.

Divvy station in location where bike lane will be outside of Logan Square Blue Line station. Future painted bike lane is visible by change in concrete scoring, in curve over the otherwise grid pattern. Blue station canopy over entrance is visible in the background, along with bus headed north on Kedzie.

On a related note, any idea when this divvy station is getting relocated out of the future bike lane? I sat the bike racks were just reinstalled so I am guessing it is soon.

Everytime a restaurant in a strip mall with parking out front closes, I hold out hope that the property is about to be redeveloped into a mixed use development. Even when I liked the spot that had been in the strip mall. Since they are not safe land uses for walkable streets.

Portage Park Bike Network Plan Sees Strong Support At Packed Neighborhood Meeting Ald. Nicholas Sposato said it was good to see so many people show up to the Thursday meeting, and the majority of people he heard from there supported the proposed bike lane network.

A reminder that painted bike lanes do not cause congestion. In the case of the Portage Park Bike Network proposal, they do not even remove parking, & or reduce travel lanes.

Even protected bike lanes & road diets often don’t cause congestion because dedicated turn lanes make traffic move smoother.

Estefany Rodriguez is the latest to come under attack for doing her job as a reporter, covering ICE, giving ppl news the Trump admin would like kept secret. She must be released ASAP. She had a work permit, applied for political asylum, her husband is a US citizen, she had no warrant for an arrest.

Why do people want a crossover SUV, only the trunk can get rained on?

Stock market tanking again today and oil *way* up. What's crazy is Trump could've just rode out the current regression to the mean on inflation, combined with an apparent productivity boom. Instead, did the opposite of econ 101: kicked out workers, reduced immigration, started wars of choice.

Still surprised that much office space is being demo’d just for a big box, but makes much more sense than 20 year old towers with structured parking being razed.

There are so many versions that start with the same first slide & end with the same slide, but the middle slide can say:
- Allow multifamily housing around major destinations & transit stations.
- Toll highway lanes for those who want to avoid traffic
- Congestion Pricing in high demand areas
Etc.

I like to think of it as they made the mid-block bike lane wide enough for people to pass, but not at the intersection where passing could result in increased conflicts with pedestrians.

This has a threefold impact on job creation. Since multifamily requires more labor for construction, has permanent maintenance/security staff, & it supports more retail.

Exclusionary zoning practices, that municipal fragmentation encourages, are bad for the economy.

Merge more suburbs.

This would eliminate the disincentive to providing housing in the locations closest to stores, restaurants, & offices that are largely devoid of residential. Which currently limits housing supply & inflates vehicle miles traveled for anyone who is willing to live in a suburban apartment building.

Chicagoland has most local governments of all U.S. metro areas | UIC today

If we had fewer total municipalities in the region (via consolidation), they would be larger & would not be able to rely on neighbors to prop up their retail.

Additionally (& more obviously) retailers look at population within a given distance (varying depending on the good or service) which means that if a municipality only allows retail, industrial & office, they rely on neighboring municipalities to allow enough housing for the retail to be viable.

Retail requires residents with expendable income nearby in order for the numbers to work. This is the eternal issue where disinvestment disincentivizes future investment. Creating a spiral.

The personal transportation savings mentioned above mean retail becomes more viable, just by reducing VMT.

Sprawl also has other externalized costs that are a drag on a local economy (see graphic below), but I’ll stick to explaining the ones I laid out in the original quoted post.

For people who haven’t been taught this equation, it goes like this:
- Every mile of driving costs society $0.20
- In metro areas it costs the driver directly around $1 per mile
Living closer to destinations means a resident has more expendable income even if they drive, as does society.

TFW you see Ashley Babbitt defenders also defending Renee Good, because even J6ers are realizing this administration is corrupt & using violence unconstitutionally.
