Photo of Peer Bork, (4 May 1963 – 16 January 2026), a German bioinformatician and Interim Director General of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL).

So sad to learn out the passing of Peer Bork. I collaborated with his group at EMBL in the mid 2000’s. He leaves a lasting imprint on the fields of bioinformatics, metagenomics, and computational biology, and an enduring spirit of open, curiosity-driven exploration.
