It is a special talent to give a made-up peace prize to massage the ego of the President of one of the host countries of your most important events, who within three months bombs one of the qualifiers. Gianni Infantino, making you wish for the naive corruption of Sepp Blatter.

Amazingly he’s the editor of the Sunday version. Known as Chicken Licken in our household.

I’m amazed that the policy of banning the burqa wasn’t a massive vote winner amongst Muslims.

I’ve met a lot of successful businessman through work, and nothing will sway me from the view that most rich people got lucky rather than being inherently superior in any way.

Not sure they need it - people are filling in the gaps about how much better it will be when there are no foreigners, no-one on benefits, no public sector workers. Pivot to β€œdon’t spend on that, put British people first, prioritise veterans, remove green legislation, and life will be so much better”

Don’t underestimate how much they *detest* WfH. A family friend is a constituency chair for the party, and he just does not believe I work when I am WfH, or that elements of my job are best done at home away from office distractions.

It’s going to be absolute carnage. I think they know about what a mess it will cause, but they’ll take the opportunity to reduce headcount by 25-50%, and if they do overshoot, it will be fellow believers who are rehired. Home Office, HMRC, DfE all at risk in my view.

Surely the more likely option will be to reduce the number of public sector workers to fit the number of desks in the smaller offices they moved to since Covid.

I truly am muppetry incarnate - leave shopping (including my inhaler) on back of trolley and walk almost back to the hotel before realising. Thankfully it was still there, although a can of beer in my rucksack was pierced. Still a hotel mug’s worth left though, so all good.

I do like the fact that there is a Republican senator threatening to sanction us for not allowing sexualised images of children, made without their consent, to be piped onto phones and computers because, well, sometimes technology has teething problems. Shows just how much in the sewer MAGA is.

I’d be extremely concerned if I were in Greenland. Or Taiwan. Or anywhere near Russia. Here, I should imagine there’ll be a flood of Crypto into Reform’s coffers before the next election, along with promises of massive US support if we vote the right way. Same for RN in France and AfD in Germany.

Polyphonic Spree’s debut album, Misha Glenny’s book on Yugoslavian history, and a brown corduroy parka from Burtons. Christ life was simpler then.

Depressingly likely. Yes, being β€œserious people” and β€œgrown-ups” will always be welcome, but there does seem to be a lack of any political instinct at the moment. And some things should be so obvious as to be a dividing line between people whose votes I want, and people whose votes I don’t.

Which is all great, until they form some sort of (post?-) electoral pact with Reform and the policy platform ends up being a little different to what those who stopped paying attention when Boris got removed expected. And while the face-eating leopards meme is amusing, it should still be avoided.

I’ve long thought we need a well-funded specialist mental health emergency service, so that those in need get expert help quickly, and the rest of the police (in particular) and the ambulance service can concentrate on crime/ heart attacks, road accidents etc.

Young at Heart - The Bluebells
Just hate everything about it, shite lyrics, awful hoe-down style tune and the dickhead next door when I lived in Norwich who would come home drunk, put it on at high volume on repeat and fall asleep.

Manifesto for life right here everyone - really simple, you don’t need to go out of your way, just be alive to the people around you. A small thing to you can be huge to someone else.

I was living in Strasbourg at the time, the Irish pub I drank in had White Ladder as the first CD on the music box. I still can’t hear anything off it without being transported 600 miles and 25 years

The Spectrum my parents got me as an unexpected Christmas present (i didn’t ask for it, Dad was obviously getting annoyed at me asking to use his computer all the time) is the best materialistic present I ever got. Would cheerfully do the same for my kids, however overpriced it may objectively seem

Not saying today is fated but since my daughter was born (Feb 2019), my record is seen 12, 1 win (vs L1 Peterborough in the cup), D3, L8. F 8 A 28.

Also it’s my lad’s second North End game, 1st was that 4-0 home defeat to Norwich where even Lowe was making a double substitution after 30 minutes.

As a Booths-lander exiled to Waitrose land, I’d say look at the Waitrose figures, but make them more how you’d like them.

I think Brady scotched that, he was holding 10 (or so) letters when the election was called according to his memoirs.
