I think it's the uncanny valley of the 3D art style. They're very cartoonish designs and they look great on the official art, but the screenshots make it look like VRchat. These games would probably benefit from some kind of cell shading.

I think people don't understand that these things only work when you're learning a language from the same family as yours. I (native Spanish) learned English through media osmosis, but with Japanese I quickly realized just how alien a non-family related language can actually be.

It still blows my mind that Hanly is free. I wish I had something like it for Japanese. Kanji study was nice but every aspect of it was hidden behind a different expensive paywall and even then it's much more disorganized. I guess the language itself was more chaotic too, which didn't help.
