Haha, don't tempt me! I'm debating whether I should attempt drawing all UK speciesπ€£
Thank you so much!! π
Thank you so much, Nina!π
I am so pleased to announce that I will be graduating with a First-Class Honours degree in BSc (Hons) Zoology with Entomology! I'm chuffed to bits and. Thank you to everyone who has supported me, I couldn't have made it without you all. Here's to more spidering and bugging wherever life takes me!ππ·π¦
I don't draw very often, but I decided to sit down last night and sketch a spider! Here's a female Hypositticus pubescensππ· #spider #drawing #arachnology #art
Some garden invert findsππ·
I never saw them cross paths. Whether it was intentional avoidance, I'm unsure, hahaπ
A small male Hypositticus pubescens exploring a sunny brick wall. There was another male further up that he appeared to be pursuing! I've seen 3 Salticid species on this one wall now, hahaβ€οΈπ· #spider #arachnology #jumpingspider
I will definitely take you up on that, thank you! π
Thank you so much!πI'm not too sure, just trying to find a job where I can but am open to anything that'll get me into this field (Any advice would be great!). Yep I'm planning to publish, but I am waiting to see what my supervisor advises; I did mention sending it to you, which he was looking intoπ
My HRP is in, and with that, my 4 years at university is overπ©Time has whizzed by, but I have made wonderful memories and lifelong friendships. Also, I realised my passion for spiders! Thank you to those who have supported me on this journey! (Featuring a cute Pseudeuophrys lanigeraπ·β€οΈ)
You were right Jess! The Sedge bed did produce something interesting - 7 female Entelecara omissa new to Cheshire. A nice fenland species. But still debating whether it was worth missing out on ice cream for this tiddler π @britishspiders.bsky.social @tylanberry.bsky.social @graemelyons.bsky.social
Oh wow, what a find, especially with 7 individuals!! Seems like a site to go back to in future maybe? (For the ice cream if anything!π€£). I'm sure Gary will be pleased as well, hahaπ
Hey Richard! Ooh great, I really hope my research helps you a little with that. I'm still in the process of writing it up, but defo have some interesting results (especially with P. sulcifrons and Mermessus trilobatus!). I'll be sure to share it once I'm done since I hope it can be deemed valuableπ
A few stacked shots of a female Evarcha falcata from Brereton Heath LNRπ₯Ί Sadly, I didn't get one of the more impressive males to take pics of, but isn't she adorable!π· #photography #macrophotography #spider #jumpingspider #ukwildlife #arachnology
Ooo fingers crossed!π€ I'm sure there will defo be some great finds from there. Oh noooπ we ended up getting milkshakes from the road instead. It was worth it π€£
Thank you! π
Brill, that's definitely good news! Thank you Richard! Did you find anything interesting from that site at all?
I spent the evening IDing specimens from the Bagmere SSSI (VC58) recording day to find a male and female Allomengea vidua! I believe this nationally scarce duo is a new hectad record? Good news for the species and site I hopeπ€ (Uploaded to SRS)π· @britishspiders.bsky.social @cofnod.org.uk
On Friday, I was at Brereton Heath LNR & Bagmere SSSI looking for more #spiders! It was great to finally attend a recording day again. It was lovely to catch up and see some familiar and new faces. My favourite find has to be the Salticidae, Evarcha falcata. I have a bunch of spiders to ID, againπ«£π·
Wow, thank you so much! βΊοΈ
Thank you!! π
That's 3,049 #spiders identified, mostly down to speciesπ time for the stats and write-up now!
It's about investigating spider richness, abundance, and diversity across different land use
practices across my uni's farm. So that includes two field margins, a conventional field, a strip crop, and a vineyardπ
Panamomops sulcifrons female
Panamomops sulcifrons epigyne
All done with the first round of ID for my dissertation, which makes 1,537 spiders in total with most to species where possibleπ© notable finds include the one Mermessus trilobatus and 7 Panamomops sulcifrons. It's time to go through the second survey samples!π· @britishspiders.bsky.social
And another three NS Panamomops sulcifrons females in one sample! There definitely seems to be a population in this particular field margin alongside barley cropsπ· @britishspiders.bsky.social
That makes 3 Panamomops sulcifrons females found on this site! π₯³π· @britishspiders.bsky.social
I've been out on the fields and margins again for a final round of spider survey work for my dissertation. The weather has been ideal! βοΈ
Another nationally scarce Panamomops sulcifrons female find on this site. She was caught in the field margin this timeπ· @britishspiders.bsky.social
