We are deeply shocked and so very saddened by the loss of our sibling and a fierce defender of LGBTQIA+ rights in Uganda, Joan Amek. Joan was the Director of our Uganda partner organisation, Rella Women's Foundation.
She was extraordinary, and an incredible force.
Rest in power, Joan.

We discussed the 6+ year freeze on registering refugees in #Kenya and the impacts on their health and safety, the chronic strain on #refugee -led organisations trying to provide safe shelter, protection and livelihood options, and the dangers of living as an LGBTQIA+ person in #Kakuma & Nairobi.

The Strategic Advisory Group provides high-level guidance and decision-making support to ensure the protection cluster’s strategic direction, prioritisation, and accountability in coordinating global protection responses in humanitarian crises.
For those who may not be familiar with their work, the Global Protection Cluster is a UNHCR-led body of protection actors that brings together UN agencies, NGOs, and networks to provide policy guidance, support and coordination for protection activities.
We are deeply honoured to have been selected as a member of the Global Protection Cluster Strategic Advisory Group. We pledge to use this opportunity to ensure the needs to LGBTQIA+ persons in humanitarian crises are raised and considered in this critical international forum.
