'Cop of Truth' or just another cop out? My latest in The Saturday Paper: www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au/comment/topi...
As COP30 begins, here's a gentle reminder that well-intentioned half measures aren't going to solve the climate crisis. The era of fossil fuels must come to an end. My latest in The Guardian... www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
Ah damn. I’m so sorry to hear this Polly. I was thinking of you just the other day. I hope your treatment goes as well as possible. Fingers crossed for a full recovery xx

that denial is a position of the privileged: people who have their homes swallowed by floodwaters, torn apart by wind or burnt to the ground aren’t afforded the luxury of turning away'. www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au/comment/topi...
On tonight...
Northern Rivers peeps! I'll be speaking at this free community event in Tweed Heads on 29 April. Please come along and pass on the invite to your friends. Bookings here: actionnetwork.org/events/350-t...
Truly heartbreaking. We’ve lost a lot of old canopy trees. National Parks will be a mess.
View of our neighbour’s place across the road this morning. There will be scenes like this all along the coast today. Heartbreaking 💔
What a mess. Around a quarter of a million people without power mostly in northern NSW and SE Queensland. Damage will become clearer as day breaks. Impacts will be felt for years.
If you can bear to watch this video on the impacts of tropical cyclones please do, and then pass it on to anyone you know who is in Alfred's path. This system is no joke. Produced by the Bureau of Meteorology in partnership with Get Ready Queensland youtu.be/2Gxq5CheTHw?...
Coastal communities from Ballina all the way north to the Queensland border are now under evacuation orders. Severe storm surge will break through dunes and inundate homes in many areas. This is going to be a historic storm. My heart is breaking for our beautiful region 💔
The stuff of nightmares 😱
Scientific institutions must create--and sustain--new kinds of roles so that researchers can provide the deep public engagement necessary to respond effectively to the escalating impacts of #climate change. The status quo isn't working. nature.com/articles/d41...
Thank you 🙏

I live in between these two data points. Either way, I'm terrified of what Cyclone Alfred is going to do to our beautiful region. So many people in the Northern Rivers have already been through so much. It's heartbreaking. Hope our home holds up 🙏
Update on the cyclone's trajectory: www.bom.gov.au/products/IDQ...
Feeling sick to my stomach about Tropical Cyclone Alfred approaching SE QLD. Around 4 million people live in this area. Buildings this far south are not built to withstand cyclones. How much do we need to lose before we take climate change seriously?

Lake Mac and Newcastle peeps! There are a few places left for my free talk tomorrow night at Windale Hub. Talking about climate change in a coal mining region is bound to be interesting! Hope to see you there... www.eventbrite.com.au/e/author-tal...
If people think that Trump is a joke, think again. Blocking the participation of US scientists in the IPCC process will have global consequences. Hard to know what to say about this...

Evening 'in conversation' event with Dr Bonnie McBain from the University of Newcastle on 27 February: www.eventbrite.com.au/e/author-tal...
Enjoying my residency in beautiful Lake Macquarie on the New South Wales coast. Reflecting on the inevitability of inundation from sea level rise in Australia's most exposed estuary. I'm giving two public talks on climate change while I am here. Tickets are free, details below.
This event in Bangalow has now booked out, but if you are keen, you can always show up and try your luck at the door tonight!
