I enjoyed this one—particularly the excellent two-direction opening tidbit of local rail trivia (got 1-down immediately because, hey, I’m a nerd) and the clever wordplay in 2-across.
Keep up the good work, @dirklancer.bsky.social! 😉

Sorry, but the post has “old man yells at cloud” energy. (And I can be a yelly old man myself at times.)
We may disapprove. We may argue that it’s dangerous and illegal. We may be correct on both counts. But it is commonplace and expected.
As I get older, I have come to recognize that impatience lies at the root of most poor driving behaviour.
Demonstrate patience behind the wheel, even when (especially when?) you’re feeling impatient.
Scott on his bicycle in the snow, carrying his tuba in a giant backpack.
YouTube video is now unblocked. 👍
Two years after encountering you in Edmonton, many of us here continue to quote you Oulu boys. Just the other day I found myself talking about “drainage, drainage, drainage.”
Just for fun, here’s a photo of me and my tuba.
Might want to do a quick proof-read of that headline. 😉
(In addition to the stray words, the first word should be spelled “desperate.”)
Love your work, though!

Can’t access the video on YouTube or Instagram. I bet it’s great, though!

Alberta’s two-tier health care bill is designed to kill public health care – a new report shows how. albertapolitics.ca/2026/02/albe...
This is a post about animal excrement and the English language.
bull$#!% = nonsense/lies
chicken$#!% = petty or cowardly
horse$#!% = nonsense/lies
dog$#!%= low quality
ape$#!% = wild
bat$#!%= crazy
Ordered above from oldest to newest: bull$#!% (1914), bat$#!% (1971).
When you’re parsing the literal definition of “treason” with the criminal code definition of “treason” is definitely when you can tell that you’re winning.

Even here in Canada, people struggle with the concept that bike lanes have crews and specialized equipment that are completely separate from those that plow roadways. And they don’t work on the same streets at the same times. 🙄

I always enjoy Chris’s weather nerdery. As crazy as this upcoming week’s warm weather will feel, it’s really not that unusual for a YEG January.

Fodder for anyone counteracting the myth of “expensive” cycling infrastructure.
Investment in cycling pays substantial societal dividends.

Photo of a farmer’s field with the headline, “Canada Is About to Lose Its Status as Having Eliminated Measles” and the caption, “The western province of Alberta has reported the highest concentration of measles in Canada.”
How exciting! Alberta is mentioned prominently in today's New York Times!

Josh Naylor checks on Ernie Clement after crashing into him while being tagged out at third base.
Blue Jays tying the series is all well and good, but my proudest moment as a Canadian was watching Josh Naylor check on Ernie Clement after Clement had tagged him out.
Naylor knew he had just made a huge blunder but his first thought was for a fellow player.

At tonight’s “consultation”…
When a high school kid tried to raise concerns about the teachers strike, Bruce McAllister cut the kids mic and then suggested his parents should have beaten him more.
Listen to the clip yourself…
It’s…
Telling.

I didn’t know him, but I will deeply miss his passionate advocacy for public health care and active transportation. His posts were always worth reading.
What a loss.

CARELESS SIGN STRUCK AND KILLED BY MOTORIST
Encountered the aftermath of this tragedy on my morning walk. Eyewitnesses confirm the playground zone sign was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. #yegbike
Your #yegvote mayoral debate recap:
- @andrewknack.bsky.social is the clear choice for mayor
- Omar Mohammed and Rahim Jaffer don't live in reality, and don't understand cost of services
- Walters and Cartmell think if only we would be nicer to Danielle Smith, our problems would be solved

Charles Dudley Krenz, 72, died from complications of bile duct cancer on May 29 at his home in Winston, Oregon. Charles spent the majority of his life making poor use out of every opportunity and privilege awarded him and attempting to make everyone around him as miserable as he was. Bright but lacking curiosity, confident but devoid of empathy, Charles was given second, third, even fourth chances throughout his life, but squandered them with a predictable consistency that borders on deliberate. At the time of his death, he had alienated himself from almost all who cared for him. Those people will not be surprised that there was no deathbed change of heart here. Chaz remained unpleasant until the very end.
Charles is preceded in death by his partner Jacquelyn Sullivan, whose warmth and good graces provided a reason for others to tolerate him for 27 years until her death from ovarian cancer in 2017. He is survived by his two children, AC Sullivan and Hank Sullivan, who, in the years since their father stole a bunch of money from them and skipped town, have been both relieved and dismayed to learn that breaking generational curses only really takes a modicum of personal effort.
the Star Tribune just called me and told me they would not be publishing the obituary I wrote for my father as it is “unfair to him” and “in poor taste” so here it is and fuck the strib ✌🏻
