If you have an ID, can you just go to a polling station and register there as you go to vote? It's all very confusing to me. What prevents someone who is eligible to vote with a valid ID to go to a polling station on election day and just vote?

Yes, this is unsustainable and must be reformed. If older generations have their way, taxes will increase on younger generations who will see their old age benefits being cut, while older generations will get way more than they ever saved for.
