mm, for sure. I think for me its just an extra stress on top of an already stressful game because now i don't know where people are and, unlike hunt, i can't even guess what they're doing or where they might go.

And while you're absolutely right about the game and world being gorgeous, I do worry it's not quite enough to keep me interested. I ended up just reinstalling apex once the server slam was over to get my high- movement gunplay fix
Dropping in, doing your personal quest, and leaving just kinda feels hollow, and i didn't really feel much of an incentive to engage on the "Find Valuable Loot" angle because i didnt know what was valuable or where it would be so it kinda just felt random every time you opened a crate.
tbh i think my big problem with marathon based on what i played of it over the server slam is just a lack of a main objective. like obviously there are the contracts but coming from hunt showdown i really felt the lack of a Big Objective that Everyone is trying for.

ALSO (and this is a lesser point but also funny imo) its so many less boxes you have to make and distribute! imagine the truckers, the hobby shop owners, the packaging designers breathing a sigh of relief as they have to stock one Base Unit Box and like five upgrade sprues!! the implications-
admittedly thats my TTRPG player background coming out full force but it just feels like such a more intuitive system to me
i guess on the Knights side thatd be like "okay heres the base knight chassis. Ill make it a Chaos knight for the keyword, which lets me pick abominant for the ability i want. okay the Abominant can take these upgrades and these weapons"
i did eventually figure it out but in the future id love to just be like "this is the base Captain. ill pay 20 extra points for terminator armour, 10 extra points to make him a librarian and spend 50 points to upgrade the squad hes leading to be Ancients or whatever"
half of the reason ive been so slow to make a marine army (besides the fact that space marine players are the vessel of my spite) is because there are so many cards on newrecruit for the same model with different loadouts. Id always wanted to take an ally knight but never knew which ver. was good.
i hope 11th edition of 40k uses the success of the crucible of champions rules to justify going back to its Points Buyable Wargear roots
the chaos warband im working on rn is like a dozen noise marines and the fifty cultists that have started following them around everywhere and its perfect to me.
the best time to plant a tree was yesterday, but the second-best time to plant one is apparently in two months when the powers that be happen to have time to book you in for a consultancy so that you can begin the process of ordering tree seeds (which will of course itself take several months)
