Weekend at Shakespeare's
Harriet from the Traitors for Prime Minister.
Saw a new band called the Killers supporting a band called Stellastarr at the Leadmill. Also saw Coldplay supporting Muse at the Leadmill once too! Plus a couple of typical Sheffield "saw Arctic Monkeys in a pub" stories.
Jaw-dropping update about our leasehold investigation detailing the lengths to which my colleague @djstimms.bsky.social has gone to track down Andrew Milne.
Particularly enjoyed the fact that colleagues from Liverpool and London were also involved. Mill Media is now more than the sum of its parts.
And this is a service we *pay for*!
Hard to get too engrossed on anything on @amazonprime.bsky.social video, as you're only ever a few minutes away from an advert for gambling apps or Pepto Bismol. However tense the show is, the tension that gets you most is knowing a bloke may appear and sing "diarrhea" at you at any moment.
This is one of the most shocking things I've ever read about Gen AI (CW, suicide). Seeing the conversation laid out is truly chilling.

Great night at Sheff Arena with @selfesteem.music-social.com @nadineshah.bsky.social and @moonchildsanelly.bsky.social. Three really amazing sets and great audience response from an enormous crowd.
She was fantastic wasn't she? All three acts were amazing tonight.
Yes, Ticketmaster, I know I'm going to a gig, and I know I need to show the etickets, I got the message from the previous 734 emails about it.
Sure, plugging ourselves into authorless, algorithmic slop sounds like the future we all dreamed of.

Yeah, I used to edit part of an annual bird report and some years you'd be forgiven for thinking Waxwing was the area's most common bird
That cockney bloke on Strictly is like a Mega Evolution of Rob Beckett.
Kids, don't make the mistake I just made and watch Squid Game S3 E2 just before bed...
Why is the US President threatening to deport his political enemies not bigger news?
Any other wildlife nerds annoyed today's @nytimes.com Spelling Bee doesn't have Turaco or Tuatara in the word list?
I wonder if he's done it all as some kind of long game so people stop being mean to his mate Chris Chibnell. Shame because I love Ncuti.
I saw some Dr Who leaks a while ago and dismissed them as such obvious fanw***k nonsense that they were obviously fake. Readers, each and every one was 100% accurate.
I was recently interviewed for @sheffieldhallamuni.bsky.social's Scholarship of Teaching and Learning podcast alongside @dralison.bsky.social. It was a chat about all things #DigitalLearning. Some great episodes here with SHU colleagues. lta.shu.ac.uk/scholarship/...
What's to bet this "free speech" platform would put the word "lettuce" on a block list?

One example was a chatbot mimicking a 5 year old child for early years ed. But the dataset has little if any writing *by* 5 year old children. Any underrepresented group will have the same issues.
Interesting chat about AI conversations at #durbbu Makes me wonder though - the personas are created from biased datasets, and how can we prevent them being created by what the internet *thinks* that persona "sounds like" rather than an authentic voice...
I'm more and more thinking the world has leapt on AI way before it's ready, if it ever will be. Search engines prioritising AI summaries should be seen as dangerous. Both through the way they can be manipulated on the whims of states and techbro politics, and the fact they're simply not very good.
Absolutely, and there seems to be a pervasive myth that chatbots are neutral and benign entities
A warning on thinking AI summaries are a neutral time saver when finding information. www.theguardian.com/technology/2...
Usually when someone is accused of a "Nazi style salute" you'd presume it's an unfortunate still shared for mischief... But jeez it's hard to see anything else there.
I want Minah to win, she's brilliant
Realised I should tag @emilymbender.bsky.social in as her blog post was the starting point of this presentation
