This is the best encapsulation I have seen of what it means to be trans right now.
And how deeply it hurts to see the moment with clarity.
Read it.

Every single oil executive in the entire world must be having the same slow, horrible realization that led Rex Tillerson to eventually snap and call Trump a "fucking moron".

Exclusive: Foreign hacker in 2023 compromised Epstein files held by FBI, source and documents show
The hack occurred after a server at the Child Exploitation Forensic Lab in the FBI’s New York Field Office was inadvertently left vulnerable by a special agent.
When the hacker expressed disgust at the child abuse images on the server and threatened to report them to the FBI, agents had to get into a video chat with the hacker to convince him they WERE the FBI.
We continue to live in the stupidest possible timeline.

a digital painting, showing an extremely detailed strawberry patch, though only one tiny red strawberry is seen in the bottom left corner. there are occasional pops of yellow buds of new flowers, but over the image is angular shapes of leaves in various shades of green, yellow, and blue.

lot of people on this site soaking themselves stupid making posts like "stop saying gross shit is ok" when people are very clearly saying "you are allowed to think something is absolutely vile but trusting the government/companies/paypros w the morality barometer is HISTORICALLY really dumb"

Immediately disqualifying for the job for which he has been nominated. The 4th Amendment specifies it’s “the right of the people,” not of citizens.
We cannot allow someone who doesn’t understand the 4th Amendment to be the head of DHS.

A rough sketch of 5 people gathered around and looking at something out of frame presumably a computer screen or something. The characters depicted are from the Vorkosigan Saga Series: Miles Vorkosigan aka “Admiral Naismith” at the front, Elli Quinn down next to him, both staring in deep concentration. Behind them is Bel Thorne, peeking over the back of Elli’s head with an amused smile, and Sgt Taura, holding onto the back of Miles’s seat and looking rather surprised or interested and focused. In the very back Ky Tung is hanging back to watch from a distance.

illustration inspired by Mary Shelley's novel "Frankenstein" showing the creature standing beside a tree on a hilltop.

Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein" was published on this day in 1818 🫀

Federal Judge Rules Aetna's Blanket Denial Of Facial Surgery For Trans Women Is Sex Discrimination
The landmark ruling could lead to broader FFS coverage in the future.
1. Big ruling out of Connecticut. A federal judge has ruled that blanket denials for FFS violate the affordable care act.
Though it only applies to two plaintiffs, class certification is pending, and it will provide strong legal rationale for challenges.

If people regularly, loudly, had been saying all along that trans people and immigrants are cool and good and disabled people have a right to be in public, we would not be where we are right now.
But too many people don't do things like that.

I have a thought about the ambient conversation.
Performative support for marginalized groups is a good thing, but it is mostly to let fuckheads know that they need to reexamine their assumption that fuckheadedness is commonplace.

Ha-Nahn: Ponder
An image of an old mage with a head wrap with closed eyes and thinking. His head is flagged by bronze rings and the background is a field of stars representing him thinking of infinite possibilities. Within the circles, the symbol for story magic floats in space.
High Priestess Tarot Card
An image of a woman in a blue dress seated upon a throne with moon symbols on it looking down imperiously. She is surrounded by stones, gnarled trees and a stone circle behind her head. Her hair moves as though it's being blown by a strong wind or moved by ocean currents. Her dress flows into a waterfall that turns into a pool that flows into the foreground.
Ayrmael, God of Creation
A digital illustration of a massive divine dragon with purple and gold coloration. The massive beast flies over a mountain city with floating islands all around. As it turns in the sky its wings trail through clouds. The creature has a thick almost gorilla like body and stripes like a tiger but made of something like gold that seems to flow beneath its skin.
Mwindaji, Remnant Leader
Image of Mwindaji, a named Remnant (a type of living weapon in Ha-Nahn that is formed when a weapon absorbs so much hatred and malice from its owner that it tries to keep on fighting even after that person dies) stalking forward through an eerie yellow orange night with a full moon. She wears a purple torn and tattered garment with great blades for her arms and a masked, eyeless face. She leads a small troop of others behind her as though prepared to destroy an unsuspecting village. Her body is full of indications of damage from previous battles and yet she still exists.
Back on my nonsense hunting for clients! If you know folks in TTRPGs or fantasy book publishing and can show off my work it'd be greatly appreciated.
That said, I definitely need a new book cover style piece.

Folks, listen to me.
Don't go looking up what blocklists you're on or who blocks you, down that path lies madness, poster's madness! Don't do it! People will block you for any reason, or no reason at all, just ignore it. I always assume that if I'm blocked it's probably because I was annoying.

It's almost like much of Marx's life happening during the industrial revolution and the social upheavals of 19th century Europe had an influence on him and his writings that doesn't directly translate to the 21st century global economy.

And by the way? This is why people talk to 'AI' about their medical shit or use Luxury Surveillant Wearables: Patients feel like they can't get a doctor who Actually Fucking Listens to them or understands their actual concerns, so they pull toward the thing that seems like—SEEMS LIKE— it does. Wilson's Library Levy Renewal Focuses on Maintaining Services
The proposed $410 million levy is around 50% higher than the 2019 library levy, adjusted for inflation. With a focus on maintaining hours and modestly expanding services, the package doesn't include m...
Not a slam on Wilson, but it is completely insane that we fund BASIC LIBRARY OPERATIONS, including staff and security guards, with a levy that depends on regular voter approval. Non-capital library expenses are a basic city function that shouldn't be at regular risk of cancelation.

Agreed. Too many basic local gov expenses are levies, leaving general fund for everything that isn't charismatic enough to win at the ballot. We've got to fix this.
