There is no objective reason to explore the panoply of Ducks if your end state objective is selecting a Goose. You must have a Grey Duck.
By using Grey Duck as a child you learn that you can fool your friends by leading in with things like Green Duck, Gross Duck, Grandma Duck. Endless possibilities! Before ultimately you pick your Grey Duck and run like hell. This does not work if you are playing Duck, Duck, Goose.
Duck, Duck, Grey Duck is objectively superior to Duck, Duck, Goose in every conceivable way. It introduces to the game an element of suspense and deceit by allowing you to alternate between different colors and types of ducks before ultimately selecting the Grey Duck.
