I know we've talked about a "books/floppies/zines ONLY" con at some point

and I still think about that a lot

I don't know if that's the solution but it would certainly make me happy

there's also this weird discrepancy between the 1000 genshin charm booths, but also very specific niche artists who keep showing up over and over

as if even the niches are highly selective and curated

I love seeing familiar faces but I want to see new ones too

biggest thing for me is, I don't want it to feel like an experience I could get online, by going to someone's etsy shop or whatever

many of these cons are just a bunch of "my 1000 genshin charms!!!! and 1 comic book I made" booths

and I don't want that

I want to find weird, new, unheard-of stuff!

I think it'd be cool if we had a larger discussion on the direction of conventions in NA- how expensive they are, how little artists make back, how much artists have to put in to even get accepted- And let's not forget how ridiculous the expectations are for presentation and merchandise with tables.

It’s likely the artist behind that ECCC table paid at least

$450 for the table
$500-700 for lodging
$150 (+) for food/drink
$300+ for merch.

The financial risk is real! Be nice to the creators behind the table and even if you don’t got the $$ to spare, a kind word goes a long way.

chatting about it with friends, we wish the VPL central branch could be an option

but yeah we're surprisingly lacking on appropriate venues, it sucks

I'm waiting on TCAF to see if I have any reason to print books this year, otherwise it'll be another quiet one
