Yeah, to some, heaven forbid there be shades of gray in a dialogue.
Here's a look at the numbers back to 2024, with fed gov jobs separated out. www.datawrapper.de/_/xnGKG/

Today's U.S. jobs report is out. I made this chart showing total jobs added/lost (non-farm) going back to 2024, and separated out the federal jobs added/lost to highlight the impact of DOGE.
I had to summon Markwayne Mullin's Wikipedia page to satisfy my curiosity about whether that was his real name or a nickname, and what parent does this to their newborn child?!?
Calling states "red" and "blue" based on presidential results not only ignores the partisanship of other statewide votes but also ignores how lousy those descriptors are at the presidential level.

Thanks, a lot of sensational things circulate on social media and never get picked up by mainstream outlets, and for good reason.
The Trump Admin has sent a war powers report on Iran to Congress, its 6th report this term.
Amidst shifting explanations for the war, it's an important document for the public.
Now analyzed and available on our #WarPowersResolutionReportingProject site:

My latest story for @scenichudson.bsky.social is on a topic close to my heart: reptiles and amphibians. On a related note, I'm looking forward to seeing some ectothermic friends emerging from their hibernacula soon. www.scenichudson.org/viewfinder/w...
Nice ThinkPad! I'm kind of partial to tracker on the keypad, plus they are durable, so it's my laptop of choice.
Just want to say that I tried the McDonalds Big Arch sandwich recently, and it was...fine. I mean it tasted like an extra large McDonalds cheeseburger, but it was fine. But if McDonalds really wants to assert their relevance, they need to bring back the Arch Deluxe. That is a hill I will die on.
Data is from the NYU Reiss Center on Law and Security War Powers Resolution Reporting Project. Check it out here, outstanding visuals and info. warpowers.lawandsecurity.org
The War Powers Resolution of 1973 is in the news, so here's a chart I made showing the number of times per year a President has reported to Congress on deployments abroad and the purpose of the mission, as of today.
When I was in college, around 2002, I worked for a small company that made electrode array implants for researchers, mostly for animal experiments (along the lines of Neuralink) although we were pursuing FDA approval for human use. Not kidding, one of our customers implanted it into his own arm.

Hey, if you're looking for some light reading to suggest for your next book club, here's a topical suggestion.
Got an email that was intended for an author with the same name as me. I let them know, their response kind of cracked me up, as if all the Robert Lawrences out there all know each other and we hang out sometimes. Would be kind of cool, actually.
Fun Fact: U.S. Congress has formally declared war 11 times, and it hasn't happened since 1942. The U.S. War Department became the Dept. of Defense in 1949, and since then it seems Congress has instead opted for "authorizations of military use." So, "war" is fuzzy. www.senate.gov/about/powers...
Ha, do influencers do that anymore? Here's another relevant one.
20 months of negotiations, 5 countries, IAEA involvement, and total compliance and Trump and Pompeo just flushed it down the toilet. My thoughts: cognitivefeedbackloop.com/so-iran-is-e...
Going on about control groups as justification for calling it 'bad science' is bonkers. How would he know anything about the details about the study design from this?
From the Cardiff group that compiled the data: "While Biden heavily relied on βdamn,β Trumpβs usage of profanity has been more varied, introducing βb*st*rd,β βb*tchβ, βb*llsh*tβ, and βf*ckβ into the presidential vocabulary." www.cardiff.ac.uk/law-politics...
This "both sides" donut chart from Deseret News kills me. It makes Biden appear as profane as Trump because he uses the word "damn" a lot. C'mon guys, what are we doing here? www.deseret.com/politics/202...
Love it when my bands don't lose touch with their inner punk.
The 2026 Nature Index is out. I made a quick chart showing where the top 100 academic institutions are now, vs. 10 years ago. Wild how many institutions from China have risen through the ranks. Full list: www.nature.com/nature-index...
The release of 158 specially bred Floreana giant tortoises is a win for both the animal and its long-lost island ecosystem
Today, @biographic.bsky.social published its first special issue:
Conservation Enters a New Era
One year after the Trump administration slashed biodiversity protections at home and abroad, people and organizations are figuring out where to go from here.

Thanks for sharing. This Model B shown in the paper is what it seems so few of these over-hyped studies ever address.
