I also don’t think that the US will be less of a threat if we stick to our principles, re. his Davos speech. I’m no fan of the Iranian regime, but it is deeply ironic to say we have to go along with an unlawful attack or else … should other countries follow that logic if and when we’re the target ?

Again, I agree with your sentiment, I just don’t feel that it’s naive to stick to values and be firm about them. There is a fair argument that Carney has been speaking from both sides of his mouth (on climate, on policy, on inter. relations).

To me, calling out the hypocrisy is not naivety, it’s a conscious challenge to the prevailing status quo… which we desperately need

I generally agree with this sentiment, yet it’s important that the realpolitk reflex you’re mentioning be challenged and tempered by progressive voices. If we always go along with it for the sake of convenience and safety, then we can’t expect positive change
