#Breaking Prime Minister Carney refuses to 'categorically' rule out Canadaโs military involvement in Middle East conflict www.thestar.com/politics/fed...
1/4: Statistics Canada's food price list for Jan is available. Grocery inflation just keeps growing.
This is a Made-in-Canada problem. Our food inflation is the highest amongst peer countries, but not due to imports: 70% of food we buy is produced domestically, including 80% of processed foods.
Iโve unmasked a white nationalist fight club in my city: Montreal.
After weeks of work (with help!), I can reveal an Olympian as a member of the Frontenac Active Club โ one who, unbeknownst to the owners, brought them to a local gym for training and propaganda photos.
Hereโs my investigation:
so Iran has apparently knocked out and destroyed / disabled to some extent two U.S. THAAD batteries
This is a massive deal. Aside from the expense, this is not a weapon system we just have a ton of lying around. You don't replace these easily.

The LNG industry is a funnel from our pockets to foreign shareholders.
Ebyโs NDP is putting our money into a sinkhole of debt, stranding us with unprofitable assets and US corporate control. Things donโt have to be this way.
Thank you to Nick Gottlieb and Andy Hira for putting it so clearly. #lng
Il est beaucoup question d'augmenter la production d'รฉnergies fossiles. In case you don't understand why Carney supports this war.

One of my favourite sides of politics/media.
"Canada cannot endorse the unilateral & illegal use of military force, the killing of civilians or the kidnap & assassination of foreign heads of gov't while also insisting that our sovereignty, our rights and our independence must be respected." @wgreaves.bsky.social www.thestar.com/politics/fed...
I saw this and at first thought "no, there's no way 'we definitely had alternative leadership in mind for Iran but I blew them up alongside the schoolgirls using AI' is what the White House is actually saying, that's too clueless and evil to be real"
Itโs possible to condemn the Iranian regime and condemn the attacks by the US and Israel.
This statement does not do that. This is an endorsement of unilateral military action.
Ceci me rend fou โฆ ils affichent des paris Polymarket sur CNN en plus
As US and Israeli bombs fell on Iran this weekend, bettors on Polymarket โ where $529 million was traded on contracts tied to the timing of the strikes โ were cashing in
"The system's power comes not from its truth, but from everyone's willingness to perform as if it were true, and its fragility comes from the same source. When even one person stops performing, when the greengrocer removes his sign, the illusion begins to crack"
- Mark Carney
Damn, meant *more of a threat
Anyway, thanks for engaging (and your work, big fan of The Long Dark!)
I also donโt think that the US will be less of a threat if we stick to our principles, re. his Davos speech. Iโm no fan of the Iranian regime, but it is deeply ironic to say we have to go along with an unlawful attack or else โฆ should other countries follow that logic if and when weโre the target ?
Again, I agree with your sentiment, I just donโt feel that itโs naive to stick to values and be firm about them. There is a fair argument that Carney has been speaking from both sides of his mouth (on climate, on policy, on inter. relations).
To me, calling out the hypocrisy is not naivety, itโs a conscious challenge to the prevailing status quoโฆ which we desperately need
I generally agree with this sentiment, yet itโs important that the realpolitk reflex youโre mentioning be challenged and tempered by progressive voices. If we always go along with it for the sake of convenience and safety, then we canโt expect positive change
Picture of Marjane Satrapi alongside a quote from her. The quote reads: The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you. And our governments are very much the same... - Marjane Satrapi, Iranian-French graphic novelist
Thinking about this quote from Persepolis creator Marjane Satrapi again.

All I see on my Twitter timeline are reporters parsing every quote from AOC in Germany, trying to mock them for incoherence or inaccuracy, while a demented old man who canโt string sentences together or stay awake sits in the Oval, while the legacy media happily sanewashes his quotes.
