Good thread. Sizeable number of Republicans grew to hate the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan not because of the reasons they claimed ("forever wars!", "waste of money!"), but because they didn't sate their bloodlust enough. They wanted wholesale slaughter of civilian populations.

very aspect of life in this country is designed so that people do not form bonds or relationships with other people, it's wild to watch in action. Never seen divide and conquer applied this rigorously to a domestic population that is not under foreign occupation

In the interactions I’ve seen, people making reactionary arguments tend to be people who can’t engage on the substance of anything, and just think everyone’s being mean to them. Or, they just have bad ethics that don’t belong in a liberal society.

At this point I’m willing to say there’s a pattern of people who *do* espouse reactionary beliefs here turning out to be either incapable of reasoning and substantively responding to arguments, or not having a universal idea of human rights to begin with.

And several of those occupations certainly are useful work.
