There should be no hierarchy to human suffering. But asylum or humanitarian policies are created as if there is. Safe routes should be available to all nationalities, not just the select few like Ukrainians. buff.ly/idJiM6D

Inside The Plan To Let Trump Track Millions of Immigrants The private prison lobby has been quietly pushing a drastic expansion of ICE’s surveillance apparatus. Trump’s reelection may be the final step.

Carceral immigration tech is on the rise - like ankle monitors, facial recognition apps, and surveillance watches. Now, investors "openly salivate[] over the potential profits they could see from a Trump immigration regime" -@katyaschwenk.bsky.social @levernews.com

Liberals have lost the argument on migration To stave off the far right, tough decisions must be made, and made soon

I think @joshglancy.bsky.social misses a couple of foundational points of context in this piece

If net migration at 700-900k is unsustainable, but is already sbout *half that level now* (year to Dec 2024, figures in May 2025) are further tight changes needed?

Thrilled to see the OECD & EMN publish this in-depth report on migration diplomacy, drawing on concepts and frameworks I’ve worked on over the years. Essential reading for those interested in migration, policy & international relations.

Finland is cited here as an example of an EU country using "coercive migration diplomacy" and "negative conditionality in cross-sectoral approach".

Fair enough as the government just cancelled its development aid programme for Somalia (including support for improving the health of girls and women).

This morning we held our final Rights group meeting of 2024. A great presentation from Jelena at Birmingham Settlement and discussions on the barriers caused by debt, housing and need for specialist advice.
Our next meeting is in January and all are welcome.

β€˜I was told I could stay in the UK β€” then kicked out of my asylum accommodation’ As our Winter Appeal hits Β£1million, we turn the spotlight on an official policy that’s making newly recognised refugees homeless

"Move on" policies after asylum applications are granted lead to refugees being made homeless. No-one should be forced into homelessness, especially as a direct effect of government policies. As the weather gets colder people are at more risk of freezing.
