My hb has unlocked the girl dad level wherein he sent me an advertisement for a dress perfect for twirling. And now all his social media ads are for kid twirling dresses. And I love him so much for that.
Picture of adult me twirling in my wedding dress because you’re never too old to twirl.

Today, I saw my work cited in a talk. Except the cited paper didn’t report the stated results nor does any other paper I’m aware of (not even close).
Feels very 2026 to have my name attached to hallucinated results.

God bless the people who write detailed, reproducible method sections.
And those who write toddler books that are enjoyable for parents to read.
Don’t know in what order.

My quote of the day

Both tears and sweat are salty, but they render a different result. Tears will get you sympathy; sweat will get you change.

Happy that @virginiatech.bsky.social & @childrensnational.bsky.social are supporting our research on the cerebellum in Down syndrome.

We believe that understanding cerebellar function will open up therapeutic avenues to improve movement in people with Down syndrome.

Scientist's way of saying 'I ❀️ you'

"I found this paper/preprint that made me think of your project."
"I checked the mice/cells/plates already."
"I just sent you the edits you requested."
"I have a slide/diagram that will work for that."
"I had that problem with [lab equipment], I have a fix."

The year is 2026.
And on International Day of Women and Girls in Science, university departments across the world still loudly celebrate that fewer than 30% of their faculty identify as female.

White sauce (Virginia) - Wikipedia

We’re bringing dips with peppers in it to a Super Bowl watch party in Virginia-white-sauce country.

This will be the ultimate friendship test.

Also Google AI describes this white sauce as β€œslightly spicy”. Google AI is lying. πŸ€₯

Maternity leave.

But with a grant resubmission, grant reviews, and paper revisions. Oh, and being iced in with a very active toddler.

Side note: for better or worse, this show convinced I could be a (working) mom. It didn’t lie about the reality.

News from central Jersey: I'm running to represent New Jersey's 12th Congressional District.

By entering the fray, I hope to bring ideas of repairing our frayed republic. Not only to defend it in 2026, but to build something stronger, for generations to come!

I never biked home as fast as after watching that movie at a friend one night. Hands shook so badly I couldn’t fit my key in the lock at home. Nearly cried.
That movie cemented for me that I just do not enjoy scary movies. And that’s okay.

AI will not cure cancer, story #587:

I have a client who is studying a potential therapeutic target. All the literature suggests that co-targeting their original target and another molecule should be synergistic because they participate in parallel pathways.

We go around the room with 5 questions.
1) What did you like about the paper?
2) What did you learn?
3) What would you like to understand better?
4) What would you like to see to improve the paper?
5) What ideas did this spark for your research?

I like journal clubs where you are only allowed to say positive things about a paper. They are so much more satisfying.
