The idea is maybe we can find a way to make Spotify look as bad to listeners as it is to us, while asking them to go look for our music in places where we actually could get paid for it.
How?? We enshittify from the bottom up.
Sabotage! I think there are 3 ways.
1) Treat Spotify as a place for free samples. Only a track or two from each album is there, listeners can find the rest.
2) Only put music up for periods of time. That’s how they do it with movies and TV on streaming!
3) Just publish snippets of songs

In April 2024, Spotify implemented a new scheme: songs with less than 1k streams per year would no longer receive royalties.
The data for 2025 was just released via Luminate, and 88% of songs have been demonetized.

Just chiming in here, I know cc fees make paying by the article a pretty bad deal for pubs, but I’d love to see places like Hydra offering a bundle where you pay for 10 articles at a time and use up a credit with each one you read. Bet plenty of those folks would convert to subscriptions too.
