Eresus kollari behaviors deserve a word or two, especially when it comes to females. Several females have been observed living in close association of their burrows, forming spider colonies (true sociality is extremely difficult to quantify among spiders so I won’t say much on the topic). Females take good care of their eggs and die by serving as the first food source of their young post-hatching. This phenomenon, called matriphagy (=“eating mom”), ensures youngsters have enough food while still too small to properly hunt.
The slide also includes a photo of a dead female next to on of its offspring that just fed on her
Spiders from the Eresus genus, due to their lifestyle, ecological needs & easily spotted individuals, are among the spiders having some members concerned by species’ conservation issues, like Eresus sandaliatus being classified as “Near threatened” in France, and “Vulnerable” in the United Kingdom where the species is protected by law.
Eresus kollari‘s status isn’t better. It’s an endangered species in Germany, endangered & protected in Poland, and it has been noted in France that this species’ populations are slowly decreasing, putting it on the verge to go from “Least concern” to “Near threatened” in this country.
Humans have been aware of ladybird spiders for a long time, the flamboyant colors of the males helping a lot. Bites have been recorded to hurt a lot for like 1 to 2 hours, with no other lasting side effects. Various species with the red & black pattern live near humans, like the unseen for 188 years Eresus pharaonis in Egypt, or Eresus sandaliatus that occurs sometimes alongside Eresus kollari.
Scientists have used several different names through time to talk about today’s species, the wide acceptation of the name Eresus kollari being kinda recent. If you search for infos on this species, be aware that it was previously called Eresus niger & Eresus cinnaberinus to cite its main 2 frequent old names.
Is this drawing accurate ?
First time I drew velvet spiders & I think they’re pretty decent, thanks to Holconis for the feedback while drawing them!
The red here (opisthosoma) should be a bit more orangy.
The claws may be a bit big (maybe 1 mm off on the paper sheet).
The coaxae & trochanters aren’t well visible due to the point of view I’ve chosen (& they are super short in these spiders).
Ladybird spiders are surprising animals even to their behaviors and are species we've been aware of for a long time, but they unfortunately are threatened animals, and who knows how their status will evolve in the future (+the usual drawing autofeedback)

Lace is such a joke.
-Rescues Hornet with a silkfly.
-Hornet's needle (tied to the baggage that fell elsewhere) happens to fall next to Hornet, a long ass time after her fall.
-Leaves silkflies to guide Hornet out of Moss Grotto.
Lace later: "How did you get here?"

I'm slowly understanding the Team Cherry marketing method because I don't post often and when I do post it suddenly feels embarrassing, like "Hey remember me from like two months ago? I wrote a thing 🥺👉👈"

Lyca did not sleep before the Execution.
It would be her third since she reached her final molt. Among other Executioners, Lyca joked that once she dropped her shell, the first thing she did was sharpen her claws, though in reality, she had been biting and slicing through enemies for many molts before. She had not only defended her sisters from rival clutches but also cut into the shells of those they could not hunt for themselves when their fangs were too soft.
Violence coursed through Lyca’s shell from hatching, and as an adult, it had become all she has known. Killing to live was the way of the Spider and of the Queendom of Vredrivala.
It was an easy decision, then, to put her life on the line every cycle to entertain the Vredrivalan aristocrats, slaying whatever prisoner or monster they threw at her. If she wasn’t killing for ingots, she would be slaying her enemies in the Outer Caverns anyway, so she might as well use her strength and energy to try to better the lives of herself and her little sisters.
It was called the Loom, which would sound comforting to any Spider unacquainted with its existence. A loom was, after all, central to any Spider’s life—a framework to hold their work, their magic, and, by extension, a sense of self.
But the Loom was a perversion of its namesake.

My favorite moments in Silksong include the naked prison break, the back alley abortion with a shady doctor, and Hornet ripping out a grieving gay man's heart and displaying it on a shelf in her home.

The knight and Hornet are sitting in a secluded field, surrounded by flowers, leaves and vines. The knight has a pumpkin on their head with its horns sticking out of it. Hornet is holding a pumpkin with the bell beast’s face drawn on the front. Hornet is also wearing a hat with some roses and a veil on it.
