The 2026 Indie Spirit Awards Nominations
Peter Hujar had a good day, and there’s no need to be sorry for Sorry, Baby.
I am so genuinely proud of our list of independent film nominees for this year's Spirit Awards; I wish people could know the integrity and passion that our nominating committees approach these selections with, but that anonymity is part of why it's so special. www.vulture.com/article/inde...

Last night was pure magic. Talking to Disney animation legends Ron Clements and John Musker about the making of THE LITTLE MERMAID was a delight. These artists made several movies that mean so much to me. Thank you to @egyptianla.bsky.social and @lafilmcritics.bsky.social for making it happen!

The Front Row: “Portrait of Jason”
In this 1967 documentary about a self-described “hustler,” Shirley Clarke transformed the very notion of personal filmmaking.
Shirley Clarke's great Portrait of Jason, at the Paris Theatre at 3:15pm: it's one of the few movies where seeing it in the theatre matters, because it puts the images—more recessive at home—in balance with the voice; word x2:

Very excited.
I’ve been in line to get in for two minutes and already bumped into two homosexuals from Los Angeles. Is this the Christmas magic?

Your fave Christmas movie has an angel coming to Earth to show a guy how bad the world would be without him; my fave has angel Cary Grant coming to Earth to make a cuckold out of a clergyman. We are not the same.

These are so good, I can hardly stand it.
Really feels like the last awards show that still highlights truly independent work regardless of buzz, budget or star power.
BIG BOYS and Isaac Krasner’s charming turn in it getting this level of love makes me wanna go twirl and sing on a mountaintop.
