Spoke with Shawn Hatosy about directing tonightβs episode of #ThePitt and what scenes like Abbot and Robbyβs conversation and Ep 7βs Mohabbot moment really mean:
I also spoke with Shabana Azeez about Javadiβs patient mistake in this weekβs episode of #ThePitt and why it mirrors the real-life pressures med students are facing every day:

let the new (FINAL sniff) Outlander theme song get you amped for this week's premiere, and enjoy this analysis slash song feels post that I've updated every season for the last eight (!) years
part who-knows-what of an ongoing conversation with myself, in column form! these are not final, authoritative thoughts, partly because I am just not that interested in final, authoritative thoughts, but I do authoritatively feel that an us vs. them approach to genres is a mistake
also, Ryan Gosling deserves Oscars buzz for this movie and Iβm not even joking
If thereβs no [SPOILER] plushie being made after Project Hail Mary comes out then what are we even doing
Also, I'm never going to be fully disappointed about a Frankenstein movie that actually fucks.
Not reviewing The Bride!, but have some thoughts anyway: Jessie Buckley gives a tour de force performance in a movie with gorgeously bold style, but the narrative direction doesn't fully rise to match her strengths. Despite its flaws, I still find myself thinking about it hours later.
For my debut at @ebertvoices.bsky.social, I went long on #HeatedRivalry and its incredibly viral fleece jacket (it's a Good Fleece!) www.rogerebert.com/features/an-...
As someone who's been watching and writing about #Outlander from the beginning, reviewing Season 8 was kind of bittersweet, but these initial episodes are a strong reminder of what the show does best, anchored by consistently solid performances from Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe:
(Truthfully, the gif is a small hint about WHICH screening it was)
LOL of course the random Bluesky thread I post out of pocket right before turning off my phone for a screening is the one that suddenly pops off
the internet has *always* had a problem of hate-sharing, and if we want to get out of this, we gotta be equally committed to sharing good work and supporting the people who make it
And theyβre so close to each other!
Iβm not even talking about my little corner of work because Iβm small potatoes compared to other writers; if you care about supporting and amplifying good cultural criticism when media orgs are taking drastic steps to phase that out, a simple repost can go a LONG way.
I know journalism is a rapidly deteriorating industry, but it also feels like fighting a losing battle when folks on here are mostly sharing articles to dunk on them, rather than solid pieces from journos and critics out here trying our best every day to stay working and writing
LRP: Truly, I would love to earn half the reposts from whichever legacy media pubβs ragebait has gone up today so that I can remain employed!!!
every time someone shares a shitty op-ed piece by a shitty writer in [insert legacy media org here] to dunk on it, they should have to share something made by someone awesome
I will say the show starts out in a very different era than the one thatβs purported to have Mars/Earth Expanse vibes, but thereβs a time jump after every season!
LOL that's why I said it β I think I lost count of how many folks did
also, genuinely surprised it took me this long to start watching, given the Ronald D. Moore joint of it all, but what's not surprising is that Apple TV keeps winning at the sci-fi game
We're finally making our way through For All Mankind before the new season premieres, and boy oh boy, am I glad someone made the "isn't Season 5 just a prequel to The Expanse actually" joke so I didn't have to
it's fine, this is what you have ME for
well if you recall, they DO build more than one little house in the book series, so Season 2's house is probably a bigger little house
Truly a full-circle moment!
My favorite part is how we both called out the improved wig situation in our reviews π

Had the chance to speak with #Paradise Season 2 newcomers Shailene Woodley and Thomas Doherty about Episode 4's emotional "holy charge" scene, Annie and Link's romance, and the show's ongoing mystery surrounding Doherty's character. (Spoilers within, obviously!)
