Indeed. Northern mockingbirds are awesome!
This Northern Mockingbird was quite busy singing away this morning. Lovely to hear. Wish I knew what the song was about.

Beautiful shots, Rob!
Silhouettes of a ring-billed gull and a cormorant resting on a concrete wall jutting out and into a lake illuminated by sunset light.
A red-bellied woodpecker and a Carolina chickadee at the opposite sides of a tube feeder filled with nuts and seeds. The backdrop is blurry greenery.
A Carolina Wren and a female Northern Cardinal perch in profile on a metal ring supporting a bird bath. The backdrop is the wooden posts and beams of a deck covered with snow.

Hereβs what to know about plants and feeders you can put outside your home.
Thank you!
A bird with a brown back, black cap, white neck and belly, and red patches below the eyes perches on a branch, with a broad tree trunk and green foliage filling the background.
A black bodied bird with a wide-open, light-colored beak perches on a deck railing facing slightly to the right of the camera. Blurry green foliage fills the top half of the background.
A pigeon with a blackish head and neck, grey body, and black wing feathers tipped in white perches on a porch top rail, mouth agape and eyes closed.

Hats off to Headmistress Saikia! It's incredible what she has done with the help of her students to bring birds back to areas that lost them due to construction and other human "developmental" activities.

A red-bellied woodpecker with its distinct red cap, black feathers with white tips and white belly clings to the left side of a tree branch. The right side of the branch has a layer of snow.
A northern mockingbird in profile perches on a metal bird feeder hook, with its tail on the left and head to the right.
A rufous treepie perches in profile on a stone slab with its tail on the right and head to the left. A tree root runs across the wet ground behind it.
Per Rob (@robcrank68.bsky.social), today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #SideView, and the Alt theme is #Yellow.

A black bird with an iridescent nape and striking yellow eyes perches on the rim of a black bowl feeder, beak agape.
Yesterday marked our first common grackle sighting at the feeders in several months! Here's one of the photos I managed to capture of him.

Thank you, Alan.
Beautiful shots! The Cape Teal photo is especially beautiful.
We get the downy woodpeckers all the time. It seems like a few live in the trees nearby.
There's a pair that comes to our feeders daily although we haven't seen them in a week or so.
A red-bellied woodpecker with a red cap, dark eyes and beak perches on a metal bar. The base of the beak is also red at the top. The bird is facing the camera with the head turned to the left. The belly is white with a thin red-stripe in the middle.
So, it's that thin red stripe on the belly is the reason why a red-bellied woodpecker called a red-bellied woodpecker?

A butterfly, its red wings dotted with black spots and translucent body rests upside down on a brownish-red wooden wall.
Saw this beautiful butterfly this afternoon. Google Lens says it's a Question Mark butterfly. Apparently fairly common but my first time noticing one.
