There's a broken cuneiform tablet from the Old Babylonian period, nearly 4,000 years ago, which preserves a tiny portion of a dialogue between two friends.

It feels a bit like the conversations I've been having for the past week, so I wanted to share it.

Nigel Farage takes significant stake in Kwasi Kwarteng’s Bitcoin company Farage’s investment in crypto company Stack, headed by executive chairman Kwasi Kwarteng, comes after Labour asked the Electoral Commission to investigate crypto donations to Reform UK

So, as people stuggle with their mortgages and bills, Farage invests Β£215,000 in Kwasi Kwarteng’s crypto business.

And plans to deregulate that high-risk industry by removing our rights and consumer protections.

I did think it was strange that Mamardashvili didn’t play against Wolves in yeh Cup. Seems even more weird - and infuriating - now

If you’re roughly my age, it’s wild to reflect on the optimism for the future Americans felt when Obama was elected β€” young Americans spontaneously took to the streets to celebrate! β€” and contrast with what we face today. The falloff over the past 18 years is hard to process.

The fact that he keeps making wholesale changes is a pretty bad sign. Eg Different centre pairing every way makes cohesion even harder

The midfielders may depend on the formation - & where Wirtz plays. If we go 4231 (Wirtz as a 10), that only leaves 2 DM/CM spots. Szobo, Grav, Curtis, + eg Adam Wharton, so 1 in/1 out may work. I still haven't given up hope on Bajcetic, too!
They may need to overpay Konate to avoid too much change

08.03.2026 22:54 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 1 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Agree re danger of ongoing transition. I think keeping Konate is essential in that regard. Sell: Gomez, Endo, Robbo (free), Mo, Chiesa, Macca. Buy: Jacquet, DM, RW x 1, LW x 1. Retain Tsimikas, maybe Elliot. Play 4231, Ngumoha as back up for both wings.
If Alonso came in & wanted back 3, complicated

Replacing him with someone better is certainly a difficult task, & I accept this season was the inevitable post-Klopp transition one that we didn’t have last year. But can you honestly say you see enough evidence that we should persist with him next season? Change is a risk, but so is not changing

This is no longer about saving the corner building. It's lost. All the SFRS can do is try to prevent what would be a catastrophic spread to Glasgow Central Station.

Meanwhile, Spain's massive investment in renewables is paying dividends now: with prices for Spanish industry and consumers low and stable compared with other European economies.

No guarantees with Alonso - or any manager, ever. I’m not worried by his β€œfailure” this season: that was mostly Perez saying he wanted a modern tactician, and then changing his mind. If I could have any coach, I’d take Luis Enrique. But the stars seem aligned for Xabi.

Disagree. Transitional season, Jota, imbalanced squad - all true. But given the players, performances have been way below acceptable for months. The PL has changed enormously since last season, we’re miles off the pace. Hughes & Slot most responsible; Slot easier to replace. Also Alonso available…

Why Liverpool's Problems Are Even Worse Than You Think
Why Liverpool's Problems Are Even Worse Than You Think YouTube video by The Adam Clery Football Channel

This video highlights some of the problems. Slot is clearly very good, but I think he is below elite level. Last year he fine-tuned Klopp’s team really well, & had Salah in world-best form. Now Salah, Gakpo, Macca, Grav, even VVD - all below par. That many = coaching

I agree (& couldn’t give a shit about what hysterical idiots think, to be clear). I feel that Slot has failed to find solutions to our problems in both defence and especially attack, don’t see enough evidence that he can build + coach a new team to success. Ultimately I think he is too cautious

08.03.2026 17:44 πŸ‘ 3 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 0

Agree with Paul about some fans getting hysterical, being abusive, making ad-hominem attacks on Slo). Awful, undignified, unacceptable.
That said, Liverpool have underperformed in the league to an unacceptable degree. Not all on Slot (eg Hughes’ strategy, Jota) but too much is for him to continue

They have the best scrum in the tournament, probably the best centre pairing, solid halfbacks, good finishers, a strong lineout, solid defence. The real question was: did they have the belief and temperament? The belief has been building - they knew they were the better side today

He is the de facto leader of the British political right, and has pretty much torched the Tories to the ground. He has higher ambitions, of course but, to my great chagrin, I think it is fair to characterise him as succesful so far
