I grew up in a turkey bacon family and at age eleven my uncle CHANGED MY LIFE by cooking me “pig bacon” for the first time ever! I had no idea it came from pigs!

Unequivocally. It’s heartbreaking, but also like not that hard to love trans kids no matter what and by love I mean give them the agency to describe and advocate for their experience instead of paternalizing it.

Convo w/ my NB kid last night—“You scared with all these EOs?”
“No. That’s what they want me to be. My friends are scared and I’m scared for them because their parents aren’t checked in or don’t read the news. But I know you love me and you’ll fight for me”

It’s important to know that a lot of productive activity is happening in person and offline, too.

Not all of it can be broadcast online, but we’ve had hundreds of people showing up to our trainings, mobilizations, and more.

Keep going. Tyranny is eroded by a sea of small acts. Everything matters.

Patron Saint of Liars was Patchett’s debut novel and super fun to notice how her voice has developed over time. Inspiring from one writer to another. Grateful.

These were each excellent reads (ok, The Real Work was v meh), but The Women was the most important book I have ever read. I sobbed. I raged. I am changed.

Community is the antidote to despair. Today we broke a loaf of sourdough with veterans, recovering addicts, exvangelicals, queer folk, and a bunch of others we call “children of God.” We’re rural Texans and to get to each other we cross the aptly named “Privilege Creek” every Sunday.
