This one, yes. The greatest threat to bigmouth buffalo is unregulated harvest. Catching one for a photo is a one way I advocate for this species. Some of them are donated for science.

On the first National Mississippi River day I want to share this bigmouth buffalo I caught yesterday. Buffalo can live over 120 years. I know this fish isn't that old... because this reach of the Mississippi was too polluted to support native fish.
Today, the river is a thriving native ecosystem.
Minnesota! Favorite fish is a species of catostomidae... which one depends on the season.
I was laid off this morning from USFWS as part of the sweeping DOGE cuts to probationary employees across the Dept. of Interior. To say I'm devastated doesn't even scratch the surface-I'm losing my dream job working with pallid sturgeon on the Missouri River. Solidarity with all my fed workers. ππ
Should I ask about the "Ask me about @afs-scicomm.bsky.social buttons?"

I follow blue suckers.
A peer reviewed article titled Minnesota's Native Fish Bill: a case study in shifting the "rough fish paradigm."
My first paper was published today! rdcu.be/d2Sml
I review the history and consequences of MN's "rough fish" laws, why they changed, and why it is important.
The article appears in the EBFI Special Issue on native fish. link.springer.com/collections/...

Have any thoughts on C. cyanopterus?
That river redhorse was a tank.
Checks out.
Mink. I'd bet a nice fishing rod.
It's not easy to do good citizen science. (I know from experience.) Congratulations on an excellent and successful #citsci project!
Hey everyone - thanks for joining me here. I'd love to take the opportunity to share my most recent publication. Check out the power of volunteers to collect critical information on our most abundant group of migratory fishes in the Great Lakes! link.springer.com/article/10.1...
In the case of @solomonrdavid.bsky.social 's boat, the answer is "Yes."
The trick is how many times he repeats it. "Agar" is once. "Gar" is always repeated 3 times. Anyone who has been on a shocking boat with @solomonrdavid.bsky.social knows this to be true.
My ADHD life hack is capturing "deadline focus" ahead of deadline. I tell myself that extra time is an illusion. It will evaporate if I get anywhere close to it. SO IM ALREADY UP AGAINST THE DEADLINE. GO! GO! GO!
I think you just took a test! A+ for ADHD! #jointheclub
New Paper: This program, run by Dr. Karen Murchie, who is Director of Freshwater Research at Shedd Aquarium, continues to be a model for volunteer citizen scientists. link.springer.com/article/10.1...
That is the best introduction for this article.
Hereβs a story Iβve been working on for a couple years, about the most important conservation issue youβve never heard of.
www.biographic.com/the-rough-fi...
βYou know,β Winter said between casts, βI have this crazy, long-term vision that, by inspiring some curiosity and showing the value of these fish, it will raise peopleβs appreciation for all these neglected waterways."
Did I really say that?
www.biographic.com/the-rough-fi...
Apparently, yes.
An excellent article I am honored to be mentioned in!
It's so true it hurts.
Are the blue cats preying on native suckers?
This is all true. We fished together!
