The Governor’s focus on infrastructure and education are two things I’m most focused on coming out of tonight’s State of the State address. We’ve made great strides these last two years in those two areas — and I’m committed this year to doing even more for Downriver and Western Wayne County.
Coffee, flowers, bananas, and many other items are about to be at least 25% more expensive because of Trump.
To help kick off 2025, I’m continuing my tour across Michigan with more Purpose Driven Community Conversations to hear what issues matter most to Michiganders in 2025.

We won’t get everything done like we had hoped, but we will be fighting for our values with every last second we have left this session. Although I’m deeply disappointed some of my bills didn’t make it through the house, it’s always an honor to serve you, Downriver and Western Wayne County.
The Senate is here working through the night to finish the work of the people, including major priorities our colleagues have worked on for years.
Four years ago the Michigan House Oversight Committee and the attempt to undermine the results of the 2020 election was parodied on SNL.
I feel like I’ve lived multiple lifetimes since this moment. And the parody never fully lived up to the real thing.
When Trump abuses pardons in the future, I will also speak out on it then. We need people in power who are less concerned about their own self interest and more committed to the good of others.
I want to be on the record to say that I don’t think it’s appropriate for the president to pardon his own family members or any political allies. It’s ridiculous that we’ve come to this point.

Why aren’t right wing organizations and legislators demanding that our legislative oversight committees do a forensic audit of the election?
Because they only sow doubt in government and our elections when they lose.
I cannot understate how bad it will be with a former WWE Executive as Education Secretary. Students are no longer going to be the priority — if confirmed, her only goal will be a right wing agenda focused on destabilizing public schools.
Congrats to the thousands of nurses who work at Corewell Hospitals across our community – including nurses at the Trenton, Wayne, and Taylor campuses!
