I think the biggest damage to the art community was the obsolescence of gallery sites (y!, deviantart, etc) and the rise of scroll-by social media, like twitter and even tumblr. Art is not ''content'', you shouldnt need to post art every day (or every month!) to be relevant. This mindset sucks.

I'm using idealism in the original "reality created from ideas" meaning. Trump and co are trying to force the world and the United States to materially match how they believe the world should be and it just isn't going to work.
This is a political project that beleives to its bones that the USA was ripped off for decades despite the world largely being shaped by the concerted will of many US administrations. Because the world will never reflect their idealistic conceptions.
The rest of the world having their own responsibilities, goals and inititative just doesn't enter their heads, so when evidence is presented that they cannot in fact act without consequence its immediately read as open antagonism.
I think this comment gets to the heart of the Trump mindset. At there core they're acting just like how so many Usians behave towards the rest of the world. They centre themselves so completley that they're fundamentally incapable of realising that the rest of world is populated by real human beings
