I do think the paper minis are a great thing for Draw Steel. Unless you or your players are Warhammer fans, not many people have the number of minis to run.

Characters that support him like Mun Cakri, Rin Coda, Jin Matozi, Jia, and more are all great. Kuni truly stands on their shoulders. I want to see what happens next now that the empire has been established.

super distinct. I really love the contrast between Kuni Garu and Mata Zyndu. I also like how Liu doesn't make Mapidere out to be just "evil". They talk often about the good things he did during his reign.
*** Spoilers ***
Kuni Garu is a great character, and I'm glad to see him end up on top.

At times, this book is close to an old epic like Romance of the Three Kingdoms or The Iliad. It will sweep past major events in a paragraph, but then it will dive deep into other ones. I particularly enjoyed the little segments of the gods talking amongst themselves. The characters in this are

The cover to The Grace of Kings. It features a multi-tiered castle on a beach. To the east, boats are landing on the beach. In background, are towering mountains. A winged glider soars above the city.
Book 12 of 2026: The Grace of Kings by Ken Liu
1st book in the Dandelion Dynasty series.
8/10. This book is crazy ambitious in its scope, and I feel like it will get even crazier as the series progresses. I really loved the metaphor of the dandelion and how it always springs up and survives.

That tagline sounds amazing. I'll have to check this out!
have a quick, fast-paced novella I could finish in one sitting.
I do wish part of this was the actual Prologue to Of Blood and Fire, though it would be hard to trim this down into a Prologue size section.

likely play a major role in the future books.
I think Cahill giving this away for free for signing up for his mailing list is super smart. It's a great way to build a mailing list and give people value for that action.
I've been reading lots of really long books lately, so it felt good to

Cover to The Fall. It features yellow triangle which represents the Order.
Book 11 of 2026: The Fall by Ryan Cahill.
A novella prequel for The Bound and the Broken series.
7/10. This is an action-packed novella that takes place before the events of Of Blood and Fire. It hops around a few different POVs and gives us more context on the Fall of the Order, which will

interesting so far.
The story for this book is pretty tight, but it clearly is about to open up into a much wider world and story.
An easy and fun read.
I am curious to see where Calen will go and get more information on Aeson and the rest of the crew.

The cover for Of Blood and Fire. It features a black background with a white egg in the center. The egg is made of swirling patterns evoking flowers and ferns.
Book 10 of 2026: Of Blood & Fire by Ryan Cahill.
Book 1 in The Bound & Broken series.
8/10. I don't mean this in a condescending way, because I actually really like this book. It feels very much like Eragon but a more adult version and darker in tone. It works really well and the story is

Sure
I don't think I ever realized that was Rosamund. So maybe this is just me. Her dialogue leaves me to think of someone more like an administrator. Not this clearly tough adventurer. Surely there'd be less problems if the Reeve was on top of things.
Dang, I like this. Not anything close to how I was running or picturing the Reeve. But I 100% know how to role play her from this artwork. Great job!
I think it'll still be a tough fight, but not as grueling with that squad. The fight is also heavily skewed to favor ranged attacks. The thorn dragon is so mobile, it can be difficult for melee.
How many players?
Thorn dragons are very tough. There's several reddit threads calling out their TPK potential. Of all the DS encounters I've run, it felt on another level of difficulty.
Hoping to! The players just took a respite, and I'm implementing similar things to the Delian Tomb where things progress after each one.
They're going to have some interesting things to handle
Agreed. I think there's a lot of good level 1 adventures. I'd like to see some level 2-5. My players are real close to level 2, so I'll be figuring out that soon.
I like monsters tied to an adventure. It's fun to have unique monsters and a few encounters to easily drop them into.
I think there's several class archetypes that we could add. There are some good ones being worked on in the homebrew discord.
We definitely need more monsters. There's lots of open design space there.
Thanks! What do you mean connect?
It's dark fantasy. And yeah there are few feelings better than when you finish.
I have "finished" my current WIP story, The Forsaken Realm. Finishing out at ~97k words. I technically still need to do another editing pass on some of the newer sections, but I can work on that while I'm querying.
Very happy with how this story has evolved.
