Thanks for the insight. That is depressing.
Is that how young people in Spain are voting? π
This gave me a little nostalgia hit for the era when I was living in Cambridge and used to cycle by the river to get to and from work, around 1999-2001.
They studied at the Pulp Fiction School of Medicine
Sketch of a tree in progress. Clipped to the sketchbook page is a tiny palette containing five watercolours.
Itβs great to have a bit of sunshine for outdoor sketching again. I bought a tiny 3D-printed palette that I can clip to my sketchbook. I figure if I keep my sketching kit small, I might actually get it out and use it!
Gorgeous painting.
A watercolour painting of a red poppy which looks like it's dripping blood.
Last month, I made myself sad by describing myself to someone as 'used to be an artist. Then a week later, my art was picked up by a shop, so I actually have a physical outlet. I may (somehow) try to find time to do more art soon. If you're near Warwick (UK) - head over to the Happy Witch!
Love the colour scheme!
Watercolour sketch with a black bird hopping around near the trunk of a cherry plum tree. In the background are glimpses of Ely Cathedral to the right and the Old Fire Engine House to the left.
Lured outdoors by Isabel for an hourβs sketching. The sun came to meet us despite the cold, and we chatted about corvids π¦ββ¬and grapes π (in case you were wondering).
Todayβs beautiful thing.
Remembering Serge Gainsbourg, who died on this day in 1991. MOJO salutes the genius of French pop with a selection of Sergeβs finest records...

Ha ha. Sheβs knitting off both balls, so Iβm not sure!
I do appreciate all the work that must have gone into making Malpertuis so wonderfully weird. It seemed a bit all over the place for the first hour, and ridiculously over-elaborate after Daughters of Darkness, but I loved the reveals and final sequences.
In a scene from the 1971 Belgian gothic horror βMalpertuisβ, three women dressed in black sit on a sofa, each using a set of double-pointed needles.
Harry KΓΌmel really loves those DPNs. βMalpertuisβ this time.
Table with cappuccino at the bistro Chez Antoinette. There are red flowers on the table in a red pot, and red blankets over the chairs.
Nice day out in London yesterday: a stroll round coal Drops Yard, lunch at Dishoom, Greek and Egyptian sculptures at the British Museum, then apple crumble in Covent Garden. 20K steps well spent.
Another Adrian Chills masterpiece!
One elderly lady secretly sketched us back in a little notebook and then came up to show us. That was nice. π
When older strangers approach my friend and I as weβre sketching, the women always end up telling us wistfully abut how they used to love drawing but then got married, etc. and drawing went by the wayside. Whereas the men just want to give you their opinion on your drawing.
We watched a film where a character texted her friend on arriving at her house instead of ringing the doorbell. My daughter said, βYep, you never knock on the door - you might get their parents!β
Iβm not a fan. There are too many older men who assume every woman around them (of any age) should be interested in responding to their opinions. Sketching in coffeeshops has shown me a big difference in women vs men in this regard. Iβm not as extreme as my daughterβs generation though!
Great news Ken!
Delphine Seyrig as the Countess in a scene from the 1971 film βDaughters of Darknessβ. Sheβs sitting in a red armchair, knitting from two balls of yarn with a set of enormous double-pointed knitting needles.
Delphine Seyrig in βDaughters of Darknessβ - knitting goals!
So sorry for your huge loss. Sending warmest thoughts to you.
Gouache painting of a fox skull, scarves, pots of flowers and clothes on a coat stand. The items are on a table in the middle of a room.
Gouache painting in progress with paint tubes, water pot and brushes.
Snow falling on a sports field.
Three hours of painting from a winter still life setup with the Isle of Ely Art Society today, made extra
cosy by having my daughter with me - and by the sudden snowfall.
Films rewatched after at three decades or more: The Draughtsmanβs Contract (savage), Gothic (bonkers) and True Romance (a fun time despite the worst excesses of QTβs dialogue). Iβm having a lot more fun watching or rewatching older movies recently as thereβs such a dearth of interesting new ones.
I recently switched to a Kobo Clara and am happy with it!
Ah, great. Yes, Iβm pretty sure he did!
βPlatty joobsβ was coined by Kiell Smith-Bynoe. Sorry if you have indeed credited him but I canβt see him mentioned.
