mileage varies, no pun intended. for me it's been a well made series for a number of years. the campaign stuff especially. it looks and sounds the part and the driving style is approachable with a controller. I've not played the latest one much though.

i'm sure you do! as many studios as I've visited, I've always been a tourist - I have very little experience of the actual reality of working within in that structure.
that said i've also met a lot of game dev vets who never stood on an e3 stage but everyone else at the studio loves because they've gotten really good at the thing they've been doing for 30 years.
I'm painting with a broad brush here folks, I guess my point is that the peter principle is a thing
I think the sad reality is that many big budget studios have creative leadership which thinks like that. who else would they hire to run the studios and make them money?
I’ve interviewed a lot of visionaries from the past 30 years of development and a common arc for those who’ve chased big budget success specifically, is ultimately failing to do so consistently, and going back to work on smaller games. It’s hard to stay top of the pop charts for decades folks.
well it’s inevitable at a certain scale of business unless you have private money. one begets the other as it were
my feeling on these large studios tanking after one game is there are creatives out there who don’t realize they’ve aged out of the industry they previously were part of success stories in. the market these days is wildly more complex than it was even a decade ago, and they probably lost the pulse.
