I am coming to this a day late, but it is a delightful story - and one that highlights the value of charity shops.
“It’s not just about selling books. ... It’s about conversations, shared interests and sometimes helping someone finish a search they thought might never end.”

People say BlueSky is an echo chamber but we have road cyclists, gravel cyclists, mountain bikers, single speeders, fixie riders, cargo bike riders, e-bike riders, hybrid riders, recumbent riders, bikepackers, randonneurs, and I'm sure we even have a few unicyclists among us

Sudan Conflict Requires Civilian Engagement
The Sudanese conflict will not be resolved by military leaders but rather by regional and civilian engagement.
The Sudan crisis will not be resolved by military actors grabbing for power. It will require civilian engagement, supported by international actors.

Open sesame! Historic Environment Scotland works to mitigate the castle rockfall have enabled this much loved local cut-through in Princes St Gardens to reopen.
Work still to do to open remaining closed parts of the garden 👷

De Congo-archieven: tussen de grondstoffenrush en de vraag naar restitutie
Europese geologische archieven staan in het middelpunt van geopolitieke spanningen.
I spoke to @apache.be about the dispute over colonial-era geological archives from Congo held in a Belgium museum.
New demand for copper and other minerals has given long-neglected mining archives a new economic significance:

📕It's world book day! So how does favourite children's book vary by voting intention. Despite having been dragged into the culture wars, Paddington is top choice of Tory and Reform voters, for Labour voters it's the Snowman while Winne-the-Pooh comes out on top with Green voters

Reform fury as someone else wins
by Our By-election Editor
Tim Shipsink
The losing candidate in the Gorton and Denton by-election, Matt Goodwhinge, has demanded an immediate re-run of the election on the grounds that he lost
comprehensively to someone else.
"It's totally unfair and rigged,"
said Goodwhinge.
"I shouldn't
be required to sit there and suck it up, just because I lost."
Mr Goodwhine continued, *I can't believe that all those voters I demonised failed to back me.
Especially after I was endorsed by Tommy Robinson and ten million Russian bots on X.
"We have clear evidence of family voting, where people voted in order for me to stop deporting their families."
Mr Badloser concluded. "I'm the victim of colour prejudice.
They didn't vote for me simply because I'm not green."
Reform leader
Mr Farage,
speaking from a sun lounger on a rock near the Chagos Islands said,
"It's a tragedy that the people of Manchester won't see Matt in Westminster, but my constituents don't see me in Clacton either."
PLUMBER DEFEATS
MATT GOODWIN

I've stopped the cock
Beautiful from Private Eye on the massive toddler-tantrum that Matt Goodwin and Reform are having, because they got whooped in Gorton and Denton.

Science and Technology Committee
A morsel of food for thought. When STEM funding is between a rock and a hard place, many STEM learned societies write the Science and Technology Committee, which clearly does take note, and asks relevant ministers to respond.
How many SHAPE learned societies do? If not, why not?
