The NACC works exactly as intended when the Albanese govt set it up.

Everyone in the APH can get on the beers tonight’s knowing they’ll always be safe.

NACC's robodebt investigation conjures offensive and stupid excuses for letting Scott Morrison off The NACC report on robodebt is out and it exonerates Scott Morrison, with a series of excuses and a justification of extraordinary offensiveness.

Opinion | The National Anti-Corruption Commission’s reasons why Scott Morrison did nothing wrong on Robodebt are extraordinary and delusional, writes Bernard Keane. www.crikey.com.au/2026/03/11/n...

The reality is the Canberra bubble was never going to allow their own to face consequences for Robodebt

Labor MPs quietly alarmed by Albanese government’s response to US-Israel strikes on Iran Several MPs question why the party rushed to endorse strikes that were likely in breach of international law

“Quietly alarmed” = too gutless to say it publicly

("but the strait of Hormuz closing is *bad* for capitalists" I didn't say their plan was smart, I just said they've learned not to put effort into avoiding disasters)

Important thing to keep in mind about disaster capitalism is that a few decades ago the capitalists realised that, if the game plan is to wait for a disaster and then capitalise on it, it is counterproductive to put any effort into avoiding disasters

You can tell how much Labor and the Coalition care about the poor Iranians by the way they hastily built a series of offshore concentration camps to imprison Iranian refugees *forever* when they tried to escape the regime.

the distaste you see among these politicians for genuine activists and advocates is irritation that they're not willing to play the game for power, ignorant that it's the game that's killing us

Excerpt of article.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has apologised if his labelling of 2021 Australian of the Year and child sexual abuse survivor Grace Tame as "difficult" was misinterpreted, saying he was referring to her "difficult life".

He made the comment when asked to give a one-word response to a rapid-fire list of people and news topics as part of a word association game at the Future Victoria conference, presented by the Herald Sun newspaper and the Victorian Chamber of Commerce.

"If there was any misinterpretation, then I certainly apologise," Mr Albanese told reporters.

"She has had a difficult life and that was what I was referring to. What Grace Tame has done is turn that difficult experience that she had into being a strong advocate for others."

I have a pet theory that most MPs conceived of themselves as a kind of landlord or small business owner, but then COVID hit and they had to start making life-or-death decisions in a way that wasn't possible to pretend away, which caused many of them to completely numb out

Israel doesn’t control the US. It’s the other way around. The US uses Israel as a colonial tool to prevent global liberation movements.

Device allegedly thrown into Invasion Day crowd designed to 'explode on impact', say police A 31-year-old man is charged with making explosives in suspicious circumstances after a device was allegedly thrown into a crowd of hundreds of people attending an Invasion Day rally in central Perth ...

A white guy threw a homemade bomb into a crowd protesting colonialism in Australia and the media have broadly reframed it in more gentle terms, eg this describing it as a "device" that was 'designed to explode'.

to young people: you may at some point have heard about the Y2K problem. some people may have told you it wasn't a big deal

i need you to understand the only reason it wasn't a big deal was that everyone spent loads of time fixing code before it could become a problem, which is why it never did

I think it's less that Trump doesn't understand the structures of democratic governments, and more that he can't perceive the illusions that keep civil society running smoothly. When people cite a rule as the reason they can't do something, he is left wondering "why don't you just break that rule?"

Trump is correctly aware that the Norwegian PM has the ability to pressure the Nobel committee to influence their decision; the only meaningful obstruction is norms, and the thing Trump can't grasp is some people care about not violating those.
