When stupidity is considered patriotism, it is unsafe to be intelligent.

We have a Labour govt that can make life uncomfortable for the billionaire media owners in this country but they don’t because they made a grubby deal with them before the election.

It is imperative we free ourselves by regulating these vile organisations properly.

This is very well said, if there are only a few in America who speak out, it will be easy to silence them. It’s more difficult if millions speak out.

I agree, Gove encapsulates all that is wrong with the Oxford/Cambridge axis that dominates British public life.

I am writing to my MP now, we cannot allow the govt to erode the rights to fair justice.

There are already too many miscarriages of justice. Moreover, certain British judges seem to approach trials with a firm view of the outcome - eg Judge Christopher Hehir and environmental protestors.

It is imperative we get a new voting system and put the days of having unrepresentative governments in the past.

It’s no wonder many of us have lost faith in politics.

I made the mistake of watching this on catch up and it was just rubbish. The Telegraph/Tufton Street woman was absurd. Demanding we use more oil and gas yet promoting a war that halts supplies.

The programme was only saved by George Monbiot, the Economist Defence Editor and many of the audience.

Anyone who wants Britain to join the war in Iran needs their head examined They don't know what they want to achieve, why they're doing it or what the consequences might be. They are lost in the void.

This is an excellent essay from Ian Dunt.

I wonder, did the right wing and press/media turn on Harold Wilson like this over his refusal to commit British lives and assets to Vietnam?

Classic Private Eye, I bet someone had fun writing this.

Read these words from 100 years ago about immigrants in Britain – and see how history is chillingly repeating itself | George Monbiot Shabana Mahmood’s new rights clampdown looks outlandish until we remember that this kind of hardline action is part of our country’s fabric, says George Monbiot

β€˜To appease the billionaire press, Starmer’s government has burnt its house down.’

Want to stop Farage with your vote? At the moment you can’t – and Starmer must fix that | Polly Toynbee The PM’s in-tray is overflowing. But he can’t afford to neglect the real issue that is distorting our politics and the way we live, says Guardian columnist Polly Toynbee

YouGov, I know not the most reliable pollster, believes Farage could win the next election with just 23% of the vote.

Two urgent priorities for this govt are electoral reform and a wide ranging press/media reform. Both are difficult but we’re in great peril.

I don’t vote in the US, however, I find the role of Ken Paxton in this Democrat Primary very sinister.

The Republicans clearly fear Jasmine Crockett. The milquetoast Democrat leadership needs to find a role for Jasmine Crockett but I am not hopeful.

This Primary disenfranchised thousands of Crockett voters in Dallas County, the area most supportive of her.

The rules were changed so that voters could only vote at one specified place after allowing voters to vote at any convenient voting station. This was only a Dem Primary, imagine November.

I think you’re right but for a different reason. Blue Labour will destroy Labour because that’s their aim - they have very little in common with Labour supporters and are openly contemptuous of them.

Moreover, they are closely linked with right wing think tanks (Policy Exchange) and Nigel Farage.

That would be good, George, although I don’t hold out much hope. Most of our skilled interviewers are dead, retired or sidelined (eg Victoria Derbyshire).

Whenever challenged to move away from America, our leaders say it’s too difficult because we are reliant on America for so much.

However, they were quite happy to tear us away from Europe, and all that entailed, even though we were so reliant.

If you don’t start, it will be too late.

And steadily the Overton Window shifts to the far right.

It’s for this reason that Starmer has been taken hostage by the far right Blue Labour elements of his party. I thought he might change after McSweeney’s departure, however, Glasman always boasted about having a direct line to Starmer.

Seems I was very much mistaken.

On a happy note, Trump is going to be really unhappy that John Bolton is delighted with the attack on Iran.

Very sensible. The thought of Isabelle Oakeshott being repatriated is bad enough without the knowledge that we’re also having to pay for her to be brought back.

He does talk sense but comes across as very weak and has no personality. I’m sure he’s the type of person who, if you don’t like his opinions, he has plenty more that he can switch to.

Funny, he does sound very familiar!

β€œβ€¦there are many, many UK nationals, probably 300,000 – ... we took the decision, as the prime minister announced last night, to support the US’s request to use our bases in order to conduct defensive actions…”

Many of these UK nationals moved to the Mid East to avoid UK tax. Forget them!

This is why we need to clamp down on the billionaire press/out of control media. Outrageous that this gets a free pass.

Thank you for letting me know and for the guidance - I will look for it and make a submission.

Rather than applying age limits, I can’t understand why the govt don’t regulate it properly as my nephews/their friends seem to have a healthy relationship with SM. It’s the adults who are a problem.

They’re trying to now… I’ve just watched a GOP Congresswoman try to suggest they’re not in breach of int. law because Iran have killed thousands of Americans. When challenged, errrrr, well, it’s three the other day and shows they should be stopped.

Only a fool or a politician.

Bomb first and then try and dream up a justification days later… badly.

I know we British can’t talk as we’ve had our fair share of profoundly flawed administrations, however, did the Americans really elected these people? Please tell me Elon Musk hacked the voting machines.

I wholeheartedly agree, it’s difficult to imagine there not now being a new nuclear arms race.

Even countries like Canada must be feeling vulnerable due to Trump’s previous statements.
